In this role, you will play a crucial part in safely and efficiently moving and managing bulk grain, maintaining product integrity, and ensuring site safety. The position involves both machine operation and manual tasks to complete processes end-to-end.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Operate a loading shovel safely and efficiently for shed movements, stockpiles, and loading support.
- Manage product integrity: ensuring segregation, contamination prevention, and correct stock handling.
- Be capable of operating and utilizing a 380 mt counterweight, hydraulic crane and the 600 mt/h intake system with a moving shuttle conveyor system.
- Maintain housekeeping and dust control; keep walkways/routes and work areas safe and tidy.
- Complete shift paperwork and handover logs accurately and on time.
- Deliver safety routines: active participation in VCOM, SLAMs, reporting, and interventions.
- Complete QR pre-use checks; raise defects immediately, isolate unsafe plant, and escalate to supervision/maintenance.
What We Are Looking For (Essential Skills & Experience)
- Proven shovel operating experience in a bulk/industrial environment.
- Strong safety behaviours; confident to stop work if unsafe.
- Shift flexibility (nights/weekends during 24/7 operations).
- Willingness and physical ability to perform manual work alongside machine operation.
- Basic digital competence (for QR checks/forms) coupled with good communication and teamwork skills.
- Possession of a full UK driving licence.
- Good spoken English and interpersonal skills to communicate clearly with drivers, customers, and contractors (safety-critical).
Working Hours
Shifts are 8 hours in length plus an hour of unpaid breaks. Normal working hours are Monday to Friday, 06:00–20:00. During vessel discharges the facility operates 24/7 and you will be required to work flexibly, including some weekend and night work. Overtime is rewarded at time and a half for weekend work and double time for night work.
