Secondment opportunity

We are pleased to offer a 12-month secondment opportunity for a Conservation Projects Manager based in South East England, to support the delivery of our conservation work during a period of maternity leave cover.

The successful candidate will lead the delivery of conservation projects across Southeast England, manage and support project staff, consultants and volunteers, and maintain strong relationships with funders, partners, landowners, NGOs and businesses.

Job title: Conservation Projects Manager South East England (maternity cover) Reports to: Head of Conservation and Science Starting salary: £29,274 Working hours: Full time 35 hours/week.

• Job purpose
• Lead the delivery of existing conservation projects across south-east England
• Manage and support project staff, consultants and volunteers in ensuring effective project delivery, monitoring and reporting.
• Maintain good relationships with funders, partners, landowners, NGOs and partner businesses.
• Main responsibilities
• Delivery of Conservation Projects
• Oversee project delivery and evaluation, monitor progress against milestones and ensure activities and outcomes are achieved to a high standard.
• Manage project budgets and project risks.
• Provide support and expertise to project staff and volunteers as needed to achieve activities especially for site visits, data collection and habitat management advice
• Ensure that all species, habitat and other project data are collected, stored and managed in accordance with Trust protocols.
• Prepare project reports for funders and other relevant stakeholders.
• Maintain strong working relationships with all project partners including statutory agencies, local authorities, NGOs, landowners and businesses.
• Identify opportunities to develop new partnerships to support conservation delivery, advocacy and future funding.
• Team Leadership
• Line manage and support project staff, consultants and lead volunteers.
• Provide leadership, mentoring and professional development for South East England team.
• Support project staff with the recruitment, training and coordination of volunteers.
• Foster collaborative working and share best practice with other Conservation Projects Managers and departments across the Trust.
• Communications and Engagement
• Maintain positive relationships with project funders through regular communication and reporting.
• Represent the Trust at meetings with project partners, stakeholders and external organisations.
• Support project staff, consultants and volunteers to raise awareness of conservation projects and the work of the Trust through events, talks, blogs, walks, social media and other public engagement activities.

Misc.

• Contribute to the overall outputs of the BBCT team and always carry out duties with due regard to the well-being and safety of others.
• Undertake any other duties commensurate with the nature of the post as deemed appropriate and by agreement with the CEO.

Person Specification

Essential

• Extensive experience of six figures plus project management in the conservation sector, including work planning, monitoring, evaluation, reporting and risk and budget management.
• Excellence in remote line management and supporting and mentoring staff.
• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to oversee multiple workstreams simultaneously across several partner organisations
• Ability to communicate complex information in a concise and engaging manner to a diverse range of individuals, particularly landowners and managers.
• Good understanding of nature conservation, habitat management and ecological restoration, including knowledge of pollinators and the habitats that support them.

Desirable

• Experience and/or knowledge of insect and botanical surveying
• Experience of managing projects funded by NHLF, councils and Trusts and Foundations.
• Ability to maintain strong working relationships with partner organisations especially funders
• Understanding of species and habitat management techniques
• Experience of providing habitat management advice to landowners or land managers.
• Ability to use basic GIS software
