A unique opportunity to join a successful and growing conservation charity! The Bumblebee Conservation Trust has a unique opportunity to help save the UK’s rarest bumblebee – the Shrill Carder – in its most threatened population in Somerset. We’re looking for a passionate conservationist with proven experience in habitat delivery and volunteer management. You’ll be confident engaging with landowners and managers, especially farmers, and adept at communicating key messages to a wide range of audiences.

Our exciting project Save Our Shrills (SOS): Somerset aims to secure a future for the Shrill Carder Bee and support other pollinators by creating and enhancing wildflower-rich habitat and inspiring communities to take action. As Senior Project Officer, your primary role will be to work with sites across Somerset to design and implement habitat creation for bumblebees. You will support and co-ordinate volunteers, provide training, carry out survey and monitoring activities, and maintain positive relationships with landowners, partner organisations and local communities.

This is a full-time position for 35 hours per week. Some overtime work may be required and a flexitime system is in place. This post will be employed on a fixed-term basis until March 2029. The position is home-based and working across Somerset.

Please refer to the job description and person specification for more details of the role. If you feel you’d be a great fit, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every requirement listed.

SOS: Somerset is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players, we have been able to take action for one of the UK’s rarest species. The Trust is an Equal Opportunities employer. This means that whilst seeking employment or during such employment with the Trust, we will seek to ensure equality of treatment for all persons regardless of sex, race, age, marital or civil partnership status, disability, religion or belief, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, pregnancy or maternity status.

At the Trust, we have a clear goal: to be the place where a diverse mix of talented people want to come, to stay and do their best work. We pride ourselves on reaching for our vision, through the hard work and dedication of our passionate and creative employees.

The closing date is 12 noon on Friday 6th March. Applications may close before the deadline, so please apply early to avoid disappointment. The interview date is Thursday 19th March. Interviews will be held online.
