Every decision in our sensitive content workflow shapes whether people feel safe, respected, and empowered when they show up on Bumble. This role sits at the heart of our mission to build a world where all relationships are healthy and equitable by ensuring our moderation operations are consistent, scalable, and grounded in clear policy. You'll lead the Human-in-the-Loop layer of our image classification pipeline, partnering closely with Policy, Product, and Engineering to improve how we detect and reduce harm. Please note: this position involves exposure to sensitive and potentially graphic content.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the day-to-day operations for the Sensitive Content pillar, overseeing a team classifying images at scale to support safety and harm reduction outcomes.
- Own BPO and AI moderation vendor partnerships end-to-end: set expectations, run governance cadences, manage SLAs, and ensure delivery that meets operational targets.
- Translate sensitive content policy and taxonomies into clear, usable labeling guidance and moderation workflows; validate understanding through calibration, sampling, and feedback loops.
- Coordinate "special labeling" projects (e.g., taxonomy updates, new harm patterns, targeted quality lifts), ensuring we see things through from insight to impact with crisp timelines and measurable results.
- Drive operational quality: define quality measurement (e.g., sampling plans, inter-reviewer alignment, error themes), partner on training plans, and implement audits to reduce inconsistency.
- Partner cross-functionally with Policy, Product, and Engineering to continuously improve moderation tooling and pipeline design, bringing an agile mindset to iteration and change management.
- Build and report on operational performance metrics (quality, throughput, backlog health, cost/efficiency, escalation volumes), turning data into decisions and clear narratives for stakeholders.
- Own escalations and high-sensitivity issue handling for the pillar, balancing speed, member impact, and risk, while modelling disciplined execution and calm leadership under pressure.
About You
- Typically requires 4-6 years of experience, though we welcome candidates with alternative backgrounds that demonstrate equivalent skills.
- Experience leading large-scale vendor/BPO operations, including performance management, QA programs, and consistent delivery across distributed teams.
- Strong working knowledge of trust & safety policy taxonomies and how to operationalize them into labeling guidelines and moderation pipelines.
- Experience coordinating data labeling for AI safety / ML-driven systems (human review workflows, annotation standards, and data quality expectations).
- Comfortable with basic data analysis: building operational reporting, spotting trends, and explaining drivers clearly to cross-functional partners; SQL know-how is a strong plus.
- A people-first leader who can coach through ambiguity, set clear expectations, and create psychologically safe ways of working-grounded in Respect and Curiosity.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with purpose across Policy, Product, Engineering, QA/L&D, and vendor partners, while also taking ownership for outcomes.
- Thoughtful AI fluency: you understand where automation helps, where human judgment is essential, and how to continuously improve HITL quality without losing sight of member impact.
