The Role
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Test Analyst to join their data function, with a primary focus on testing within the data landscape. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the quality, accuracy, and integrity of data across systems, reporting platforms, and transformation processes. Working at the heart of data-driven change, you will be responsible for validating data pipelines, supporting system enhancements, and providing confidence that the data underpinning business decisions is complete, accurate, and fit for purpose. You will collaborate closely with data engineers, analysts, technology teams, and business stakeholders to define effective testing approaches, execute comprehensive data validation activities, and identify and resolve issues early in the delivery lifecycle.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Design and execute test plans focused on data quality, data migration, and system integrations.
- Validate data transformations between source and target systems, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and completeness.
- Develop and execute SQL-based queries to reconcile, validate, and analyse data outputs.
- Identify, log, and track data defects through to resolution, working collaboratively with technology and business teams.
- Support testing activities across data warehouses, reporting platforms, and analytics solutions.
- Contribute to test automation initiatives where appropriate, improving efficiency, consistency, and repeatability.
- Ensure data testing is embedded within project delivery and change initiatives from inception through to implementation.
- Provide clear and concise reporting on testing progress, issues, risks, and outcomes to key stakeholders.
- Support the definition, implementation, and maintenance of data quality standards and controls.
- Partner with business users to validate that outputs meet requirements and are suitable for operational and strategic use.
Skills & Experience
- Strong experience in data testing, data validation, or quality assurance within a data or analytics environment.
- Proficient in SQL and data interrogation techniques.
- Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts, ETL processes, and data pipelines.
- Experience working with both structured and unstructured data sources.
- Exposure to testing tools and frameworks.
- Excellent attention to detail, with a strong focus on data accuracy, quality, and completeness.
- Ability to interpret business requirements and translate them into effective test scenarios and validation activities.
- Experience working within change or project environments, ideally within financial services.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across technology and business teams.
- Awareness of data governance principles, data quality frameworks, and associated controls.
- Understanding of regulatory expectations relating to data (desirable).
- Relevant testing certification, such as ISTQB (desirable).
