Bullet Express is looking for an experienced Operations Manager to join our team at our Bothwell site. This is a key management role within our operation, responsible for the day-to-day running of our warehouse and transport operation. You will lead the operational teams, ensure our customers receive the level of service they expect, and make sure the operation runs safely, efficiently and cost-effectively.

We are looking for someone who is comfortable working in a busy, fast-paced transport and logistics environment. You will need to be a strong people manager who can make decisions, solve problems and take ownership of the operation. The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of Operations and fellow Operations Manager and other departments across the business to continually improve performance, service and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Management
    • Take responsibility for the smooth day-to-day running of the warehouse and transport operation.
    • Ensure customer deliveries and collections are completed in line with agreed service levels and KPIs.
    • Manage the team responsible for inbound and outbound freight, including loading, unloading, scanning and movement through the warehouse.
    • Monitor daily operational performance and take action quickly when issues arise.
    • Plan staffing, vehicles and warehouse resources to meet the needs of the operation.
    • Support and manage trunking and network operations.
    • Ensure clear communication and handovers between shifts and departments.
    • Identify ways to improve processes, productivity and service.
  • People Management
    • Lead, support and develop the operational teams.
    • Set clear expectations and ensure team members understand their roles and responsibilities.
    • Manage staffing levels, holidays, overtime and agency requirements.
    • Monitor performance and address any issues quickly and fairly.
    • Complete return-to-work meetings, investigations, performance reviews and disciplinary processes where required.
    • Coach and develop supervisors and team members.
    • Build a positive working environment with a strong focus on teamwork, accountability and performance.
  • Warehouse & Transport
    • Ensure freight is handled, scanned, loaded and unloaded safely and accurately.
    • Maintain high standards of warehouse housekeeping.
    • Ensure vehicles and warehouse resources are used efficiently.
    • Monitor operational accuracy, damages and service failures.
    • Work with the transport team to ensure vehicles and drivers are planned effectively.
    • Ensure operational procedures are followed consistently across all shifts.
  • Health & Safety and Compliance
    • Ensure all Health & Safety procedures are followed across the operation.
    • Promote a strong safety culture and challenge unsafe working practices.
    • Ensure risk assessments, toolbox talks, accident investigations and other required documentation are completed.
    • Ensure compliance with relevant transport legislation, driver hours and Working Time requirements.
    • Make sure operational checks, audits and compliance requirements are completed accurately and on time.
  • Customer Service
    • Maintain strong working relationships with customers, partners and other departments within Bullet Express.
    • Deal with operational and customer escalations professionally and quickly.
    • Investigate service failures and put actions in place to prevent repeat issues.
    • Support customer meetings and service reviews where required.
    • Ensure customers and internal teams receive clear and accurate operational updates.
  • Performance & Cost Control
    • Monitor operational costs and ensure the operation works within agreed budgets.
    • Manage overtime and agency usage effectively.
    • Identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary costs without affecting service or safety.
    • Monitor key operational KPIs and take action where performance falls below expectations.
    • Produce clear operational reports and updates for senior management.
    • Continually look for ways to make the operation safer, simpler and more efficient.

What We're Looking For

  • Essential: Previous management experience within transport, logistics, distribution or warehouse operations.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Experience managing a busy, fast-paced operation.
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety and operational compliance.
  • Experience working with operational KPIs and service targets.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Confident making decisions and taking ownership of operational issues.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with customers, colleagues and senior management.
  • Comfortable using TMS, Microsoft and operational systems.
