Bulk™ is on an incredible journey, with a mission to move the business from a manufacturing‑led retailer to a destination brand for active nutrition. We are shaking up the sports nutrition industry through disruptive marketing campaigns that help people think differently about our brand – and we want you to be a part of it! We want passionate risk‑takers who like to challenge our thinking and live and breathe digital, with an affinity to the world of nutrition, health, fitness, and sports.

This is an opportunity to take ownership of our packaging strategy and make a tangible impact on the business. As our Packaging Technologist, you will be the go‑to expert for all things packaging, driving innovation, efficiency, and performance across rigid and flexible plastics, card, and corrugate. In this newly created role, you will oversee packaging across the entire supply chain, shaping solutions that are smarter and more cost‑effective. You’ll be instrumental in improving packaging performance, optimising costs, and ensuring every solution meets commercial, technical, and environmental standards.

Reporting to the Head of Innovation and working closely with cross‑functional teams, you’ll have the freedom to challenge the status quo, implement best‑in‑class solutions, and influence how our products are experienced from shelf to customer. This is a role for someone ready to make packaging a strategic advantage.

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?

  • Research and share insights on packaging trends, materials, and technologies relevant to Bulk’s formats.
  • Partner with Innovation and Brand & Studio teams in product development to build quality and functionality into packaging design, ensuring everything we launch is fit for purpose.
  • Build collaborative working relationships with packaging suppliers to stay informed on new technologies, and ensure our packaging continually meets requirements for quality, performance, and cost.
  • Support the evaluation of new materials, formats, and manufacturing techniques to improve quality and save cost.
  • Own packaging testing, filling and line trials, gathering feedback and ensuring smooth scale‑up to production.
  • Collaborate with the Brand & Studio team to deliver right‑first‑time print of our pack designs.
  • Support the rollout and maintenance of packaging standards, testing protocols, and documentation.

TECHNICAL SUPPORT & COMPLIANCE

  • Guide and support the maintenance of packaging specifications with the Technical Supplier team.
  • Maintain the packaging database to ensure all specifications and test data are up to date and accessible, as well as manage external compliance database systems.
  • Support the delivery of Bulk’s packaging compliance and ensure ongoing alignment with relevant regulations.
  • Guide on the preparation and submission of packaging waste data.
  • Help identify opportunities to improve recyclability, reduce environmental impact, and enhance circularity across packaging formats in line with legislative requirements.
  • Monitor regulatory and industry updates, flagging relevant changes to the team.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

  • You’re a packaging expert with hands‑on experience in development or as a packaging technologist, ideally in consumer goods and direct‑to‑consumer channels.
  • You bring a strong technical foundation, ideally with a BSc in food science, technology, or material science.
  • You’ve successfully delivered innovative, high‑performing packaging solutions that balance cost, performance, and sustainability.
  • Project management comes naturally – you can take ideas from concept through to delivery.
  • You thrive when working cross‑functionally and know how to influence without authority.
  • Analytical and problem‑solving skills are your second nature – you make data‑driven decisions confidently.
  • You’re curious, resourceful, and a self‑starter who doesn’t wait to be told what to do.
  • You’re excited by the chance to make a real impact in a fast‑moving, agile, and entrepreneurial business.

  • Monthly Bulk Bank Benefits Allowance including a subsidised gym membership.
