We’re looking for an experienced Finance Operations Supervisor to join our finance team and lead the day-to-day activities of our transactional finance function. Reporting to the Finance Operations Manager, you’ll oversee a team of four Accounts Assistants, supporting the smooth running of our purchase ledger, sales ledger, banking and cash management processes. This is a hands-on leadership role, ideal for someone who has strong transactional finance experience, a relevant AAT qualification and previous experience supervising or leading a small team. You’ll be responsible for ensuring the team delivers accurate, timely work, supporting team development, managing workloads and identifying opportunities to improve our finance operations.

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?

  • Team Leadership and Development
    • Provide day-to-day leadership, guidance and support to a team of four Accounts Assistants.
    • Monitor performance to ensure AP and AR tasks are completed accurately and within deadlines.
    • Review the quality and accuracy of postings, providing feedback and coaching where required.
    • Support the training and development of team members, helping them build their finance knowledge and confidence.
    • Conduct performance appraisals, support absence management and help team members achieve their OKRs.
    • Create a collaborative, supportive and accountable team environment.
  • Finance Operations
    • Oversee the day-to-day management of the purchase and sales ledgers.
    • Complete monthly ledger reviews, identifying balances requiring investigation and ensuring appropriate action is taken.
    • Monitor weekly GRNI and Amazon tasks, reviewing KPIs and escalating performance or resource risks to the Finance Operations Manager.
    • Ensure AP and AR activities are completed accurately and in line with month-end deadlines.
    • Review weekly payment runs and support with preparation where required.
    • Oversee bank reconciliations completed by the AR team, ensuring outstanding items are investigated and resolved.
    • Support with raising ad hoc payments on HSBC when required.
    • Manage treasury-related tasks and processes, ensuring deadlines and controls are maintained.
  • Cash Management and Reporting
    • Own the weekly cash forecast and present updates at weekly cash flow meetings with the Accounting, Control and Treasury Director.
    • Produce monthly functional reporting, providing insight into operational performance, workload and control risks.
    • Maintain accurate finance operations records and ensure relevant processes and controls are followed.
  • Process Improvement and Systems
    • Maintain and review finance operations standard processes, identifying inefficiencies and recommending improvements to the Finance Operations Manager.
    • Support the implementation of new systems and processes, including final-stage testing and operational sign-off.
    • Ensure company policies and procedures are followed consistently.
    • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders, responding to and resolving queries in a timely manner.
    • Support the wider finance team with ad hoc duties as required.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

  • AAT Level 3 or above, or an equivalent relevant accounting qualification.
  • Proven experience supervising, coaching or leading a small finance team.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in an accounts or finance operations role.
  • Excellent organisation and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to support and develop others.
  • A proactive approach, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.

Desirable Experience

  • AAT Level 4 or working towards it.
  • Experience with cash forecasting, treasury processes or payment runs.
  • Experience producing KPI or operational performance reporting.
  • Experience improving finance processes and supporting system implementations.

HYBRID: 3 days in the office, 2 days working from home
