Mechanical Engineer
Bulgin is widely recognised as a leading manufacturer of environmentally sealed connectors and components. Due to an exciting phase of growth we are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our busy Engineering Development team based in Cambridge.
The role
To be the project lead, providing Mechanical Engineering input for assigned New Product Development projects. This includes completing research, analysing problems and providing solutions by contributing to design, development, prototyping, qualification and launch of new product offerings.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead NPD projects from inception to manufacturing engineering handover
- Complete project documentation in support of the Stage Gate development process
- Produce CAD models and drawings – Concept > Prototype > Detailed Design > Production Release
- Produce detailed test plans to support product development activities – working with the development team to test, evaluate and improve designs
- Support production introduction of new product offerings
- Provide technical expertise in the development of new products
- Assist with team continuous improvement activities
- Lead research and development of new technological innovations
- Create new products on the ERP/MRP system
- Liaise with other departments (manufacturing, finance, marketing) to support project activities
Qualification and Experience
The successful candidate will be degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline. Previous professional experience is desirable but candidates new to their career will be considered.
Essential:
- Degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Competent in the use of 3D design software packages including SolidWorks
- Ability to clearly illustrate/communicate technical ideas
- Good written and verbal communication skills
Desirable:
- Experience of using simulation and optimisation techniques and packages to analyse product performance and enhance detailed design (FEA, DFMEA, DFMA, etc.)
- A good understanding of electronics/electrical design (Data connectors, Power transmission, etc.)
- A familiarisation of relevant industry standards (IP & IK Ratings, ATEX, etc.)
- Hands-on experience in assembly of rapid prototypes and testing (3D Printing, Machining, etc.)
- Membership of a relevant Engineering Institution
