Role Summary
As a DevOps Engineer, you will play a central role in delivering secure, scalable, and highly available digital services. Embedded within an agile, multidisciplinary team, you will drive end-to-end automation, build infrastructure as code (IaC), and enable rapid, reliable deployment from discovery through to live operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Pipeline Management: Design, build, and maintain deployment pipelines and automation using tools such as Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins, ensuring alignment with national government digital standards.
- Infrastructure as Code: Define and manage cloud environments using IaC (Terraform, Bicep, Ansible) to guarantee consistency, resilience, and scalability.
- Agile Collaboration: Partner with developers, architects, and product leads to support continuous integration, secure builds, and frequent releases.
- Process Automation: Embed end-to-end automation across build, test, deployment, and infrastructure management to maximize operational efficiency.
- Best Practice Champion: Promote DevOps principles, conduct IaC reviews, share technical knowledge, and contribute to the broader delivery community.
- System Support & Monitoring: Monitor and troubleshoot infrastructure and deployment issues to ensure high availability and performance, participating in second-line support and incident response where required.
Required Skills and Experience
- CI/CD Pipelines: Proven expertise in designing and operating continuous integration and deployment pipelines (e.g., Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins).
- Cloud & IaC: Strong proficiency with major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) alongside IaC tools like Terraform, Bicep, or Ansible.
- Scripting & Programming: Solid hands-on coding or scripting ability in Python, Go, Bash, JavaScript, or PowerShell.
- Containers & Architecture: Hands-on experience with containerisation and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes) within microservices architectures.
- DevOps Methodology: Sound knowledge of version control (Git), automated testing, security-by-design, and collaborative Agile workflows.
Desirable Skills
- Familiarity with monorepo tooling (NX, Turborepo) or modern PaaS platforms (Netlify, Vercel).
- Working knowledge of front-end technologies such as React.
- Demonstrated experience in mentoring team members and growing internal technical capability.
