Associate Director Award-Winning Construction & Development Consultancy | Birmingham Birmingham and the wider West Midlands are seeing a wave of development and new build activity, making it an exciting time to work as a QS in the region. We’re working with a consultancy playing an important part in that growth. They already have a Director QS in Birmingham, and this is a chance to join as second in command, where you’ll be pivotal in developing the QS team and shaping how it runs. You’ll lead cost management across healthcare, education and commercial developments throughout the Midlands, working closely with Project Managers from early RIBA stages. Alongside project, development and sustainability specialists, you’ll shape cost plans and commercial strategy on a varied project book. The work is hands-on and bespoke, with none of the off-the-shelf process you might be used to. You’ll bring extensive consultancy and/or client-side QS experience, with proven delivery under JCT and NEC contracts, including contract administration. You’ll be comfortable acting as Employer’s Agent, covering certification, change control and commercial management, and confident managing design teams, contractors and stakeholders. A strong grip on cost, programme and risk is essential, as is the confidence to lead client relationships at senior level. You’ll be degree-qualified and MRICS, and healthcare, education or commercial experience is desirable. Experience in management and mentoring junior surveyors would also be welcomed but not essential right away. The step up to Associate Director is a real one. You’ll have the chance to shape the Birmingham QS function alongside the Director QS and the Operations Director, and in time move towards shares and equity. The business is collaborative and down-to-earth, backs its people, and invests in where they’re going. Hybrid working is standard, and the benefits go well beyond the usual: unlimited holidays, enhanced family pay, life insurance and income protection, private health cover, and support for further study and professional development. If you’re a QS who wants more ownership, more variety and the chance to help build something rather than maintain it, this could be worth a conversation.
