We are working on an exclusive opportunity with a leading commercial fit-out and interiors contractor seeking an experienced Technical Services Manager to join their team. This is a senior technical position responsible for overseeing the MEP elements of multiple commercial fit-out projects, from early-stage design and pre-construction through to installation, commissioning and completion.
The successful candidate will have strong technical knowledge across mechanical, electrical, public health and life safety systems, combined with experience managing building services within significant commercial fit-out projects.
The Role
You will take a lead role in the technical delivery of MEP services across multiple projects, working closely with clients, design teams, subcontractors, pre-construction teams and project delivery personnel. Key responsibilities will include:
- Leading the MEP technical process from project inception through to delivery and completion.
- Managing multiple projects at different stages from a building services perspective.
- Overseeing the development of MEP performance specifications, particularly for design-and-build procurement.
- Coordinating the production of technical specifications, drawings, schedules and related design information.
- Carrying out building services surveys and appraisals, producing reports and recommendations for existing and proposed MEP systems.
- Reviewing and advising on BMS and control systems.
- Supporting pre-construction and design teams with technical problem-solving, risk identification and MEP cost planning.
- Assisting with the assessment and evaluation of subcontractor tenders, technical proposals and design submissions.
- Supporting the commercial and sales teams with MEP information for client presentations and project proposals.
- Leading or chairing MEP technical meetings and providing technical guidance throughout project delivery.
- Reviewing and approving subcontractor technical submissions, drawings and design information.
- Attending meetings with clients, consultants, designers, specialist contractors and internal project teams.
- Supporting project teams with MEP inspections, void closure and technical sign-off where required.
- Preparing commissioning programmes and overseeing the commissioning process when required.
- Contributing to project reporting, project meetings and formal quality audits.
- Maintaining operational responsibility for the compliance, quality and technical delivery of building services engineering works.
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
- Proven experience working within the commercial fit-out sector.
- Experience delivering medium-to-large-scale fit-out projects, ideally including projects valued at £10m+, with exposure to at least one project of £20m+ preferred.
- Strong technical knowledge across mechanical, electrical, public health and life safety building services.
- Experience working through the pre-construction and design stages of projects.
- A strong understanding of design-and-build procurement and the management of MEP design development.
- Recognised qualifications within building services engineering.
- A good understanding of relevant building services regulations, codes of practice and health and safety requirements.
- Knowledge of the local subcontractor and building services market.
- Experience with project management and construction software.
- Knowledge of systems such as Microsoft Project or Vista would be advantageous.
- The ability to collate information from multiple stakeholders and produce clear, accurate project reports.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills when working with clients, consultants and subcontractors.
- A commercially aware and solutions-focused approach to technical delivery.
