With an excellent reputation for quality, client satisfaction and repeat business, they are seeking an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team in Maidstone. The Role

Reporting to a Senior Quantity Surveyor and Commercial Manager, the Assistant Quantity Surveyor will support the commercial management of construction projects from pre-construction through to final account. The successful candidate will gain exposure to all aspects of quantity surveying and will be given the opportunity to progress within a growing business. The role will involve assisting with procurement, cost reporting, subcontractor management and financial administration while supporting the wider project delivery team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the commercial management of construction projects throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support the procurement of subcontract packages, including obtaining quotations and tender analysis.
  • Assist in preparing subcontract orders and contract documentation.
  • Measure and value works completed on site.
  • Assist with the preparation of interim applications and valuations.
  • Process subcontractor applications and payment recommendations.
  • Support the management of variations and change control.
  • Assist in producing monthly Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs).
  • Monitor project costs and assist with forecasting exercises.
  • Maintain accurate commercial records and project documentation.
  • Support the preparation and agreement of final accounts.
  • Attend project meetings with clients, consultants and subcontractors.
  • Work closely with site teams to monitor progress and commercial performance.
  • Identify commercial risks and opportunities and report findings to senior team members.

Requirements

  • Degree, HNC or HND qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related construction discipline.
  • 1-4 years' experience within a Quantity Surveying or Assistant Quantity Surveying role.
  • Previous experience working for a main contractor, subcontractor or consultancy considered.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Understanding of construction contracts, preferably JCT.
  • Good communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
  • Eager to learn and develop a long-term career in Quantity Surveying.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable

  • Experience working on commercial, leisure, retail or mixed-use projects.
  • Knowledge of procurement processes and subcontractor management.
  • Working towards professional accreditation such as RICS or CIOB.
