We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Lead Senior Civil Engineer to join our Amey Consulting Structures team in Scotland. We have design hubs in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Motherwell, Perth, and Aberdeen together with additional office space in Dumfries, Ayr, Dundee, Nairn and Huntly. Our Amey Consulting Structures Team are involved in designing some of the largest civil engineering and associated infrastructure projects across Scotland with cumulative values in excess of £1bn. Amey manages both the Southwest and Northeast Trunk Road Network Management contracts, with the Southwest being awarded in 2020 and the Northeast in 2022. In addition to these long-term contracts, we also have a diverse portfolio of major roads, bridges and transportation and civil design projects with Transport Scotland, Local Authorities, and established contractors across the country. These long-term contracts provide excellent opportunities for technical, engineering, and professional design staff at all stages of their careers to be involved in some of the most exciting and challenging engineering projects associated with Scotland’s arterial road network Our Lead Senior Engineers play an important part within the Design team and alongside our client, Transport Scotland. As a Lead Senior Engineer you will provide effective support and assistance to your Design Team Leader on a variety of Civil schemes whilst taking the lead on projects and mentoring junior designers. To lead a team to product technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements The preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the overarching criteria of quality, cost and programme. Responsibility for the commercial success of the projects within their portfolio, controlling budgets and managing the costs associated with the production of deliverables Developed experience and expertise within the relevant technical field, probably gained in a Senior Engineer role or equivalent Able to produce technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements, working unsupervised and supervising more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks Experienced in undertaking project related tasks associated with the management of health, safety and welfare, e.g. Amey’s Integrated Management System and the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations Capable of acting as day-to-day main engineering contact for a project where required under the terms of the commission, e.g. Contractor’s Responsible Engineer (CRE) for Network Rail schemes Knowledge, understanding and experience of design and specification process with ability to advise others (Design Team Leader for appropriate projects). Highly experienced with relevant software and similar analytical tools. Has a very good understanding of CDM and risk assessment. Substantially experienced in the management and communication of hazards and risks on projects and ensures appropriate risk mitigation and transference has been applied. Capable of acting as Principal Designer for appropriate projects Capable of managing a medium sized, locally based single discipline technical team, including the people manager role At Amey, we recognise that our biggest asset is our people.
