This is a senior technical leadership role with real influence. You’ll set strategy, manage risk and provide expert assurance across Heathrow’s potable, non‑potable and closed water circuit systems, working closely with operational teams and delivery partners across the entire business.
Your role will involve:
- Develop and maintain water quality strategies, maintenance strategies and operational procedures in line with Heathrow’s asset management framework.
- Manage key relationships with regulators and internal/external stakeholders requiring assurance of a safe and compliant water supply.
- Lead governance arrangements for Legionella and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, identifying and addressing continuous improvement.
- Lead the management and improvement of closed water circuits (e.g. LTHW, CHW, condenser water), including treatment regimes, monitoring and system optimisation.
- Lead investigations into poor water quality or non‑compliance, identifying root cause and driving effective corrective actions.
- Provide assurance that water quality requirements are robustly applied across maintenance and capital projects.
- Communicate water quality risks clearly to the business and support operational teams in managing those risks.
These skills are essential:
- Degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
- Chartered or Incorporated status with UK bodies like the IMechE or CIBSE, or working towards completion in 12 months.
- Strong experience in water quality management.
- Proven ability to use data to assess risk, support asset decisions and develop business cases.
- Experience in regulated or safety‑critical environments (e.g. aviation, utilities, healthcare, transport).
- Experience working with water treatment specialists and regulatory bodies.
- Experience of working in a matrix organisation with multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Working Location:
Our Hybrid working approach offers the opportunity for colleagues in some roles to work from home for an average of two days a week, providing the flexibility to work in an agile way whilst ensuring we deliver for the operational needs of Heathrow. Working arrangements vary from team to team and will be confirmed during the recruitment process. You’ll need to be based in the UK and within a commutable distance to Heathrow.
