This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and motivated person to lead the building physics team within BDP. The building physics team includes a range of highly skilled analysts capable of undertaking sophisticated design and assessment to ensure our building design meets the highest performance standards, from Net Zero building design to forensic modelling.

Our building physics team are supporting high profile projects across the practice and the successful individual will build upon their strengths. You will harness the skills within the team to develop our service offering, with a focus on whole life carbon reduction, net zero carbon strategy development and performance analysis. With your experience of modelling and building performance analysis you will understand both the modelling process and the opportunities each software tool offers to maximise the impact of our work.

Ideally the candidate will have an engineering and energy background, with experience of leading and delivering net zero carbon roadmaps and infrastructure strategies for major estates, including experience of hospitals and university campus environments. As an outward looking individual, you will enjoy building relationships both internally and externally and be actively involved in securing new work and representing BDP throughout the project lifecycle. Your leadership will support the team's development and ensure we continue to offer industry leading building performance services.

You will have a unique opportunity to work on a diverse range of challenging projects in sectors including workplace, healthcare, education, culture and heritage, sport and leisure, sci-tech and residential.

About you:

  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate with project teams, clients, and stakeholders effectively.
  • Entrepreneurial and results driven individual, with a positive attitude and proactive mindset.
  • The successful candidate will have a high degree of integrity, professional ethics, respect and sense of responsibility.
  • Experience in development of net zero carbon strategies across both new and existing buildings in addition to site/campuswide master planning.
  • Experience in operational carbon and embodied carbon assessment methodologies.
  • Working knowledge of LETI, UK NZCBS, and ideally CIBSE TM65.
  • Strong background in building performance analysis.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret and manipulate data to inform design decisions and optimise building performance.
  • A solid understanding of UK building regulations industry standards and certification schemes (such as BREEAM, LEED, Passivhaus, NABERS).
  • Low Carbon Consultant and Low Carbon Energy Assessor would be advantageous.
  • Experience in managing teams would be desirable.
  • Chartered Engineer or Environmentalist would be desirable/required.
  • Bachelors or master's degree in Engineering, Architecture, or a related field with a focus on Building Physics, Energy Modelling, or Sustainable Design.
