We are seeking a proactive and knowledgeable Senior Technologist with an emphasis on technical design robustness, Compliance, and BSA experience to support our Bristol and Cardiff studios and Sectors. The role bridges policy, practice, and people—helping our teams to be informed and empowered to meet the evolving demands of building safety and regulatory compliance. The role will be Project based and will operate across three strategic pillars—Central, Studio, and Project Teams. While the responsibilities are defined, the way they are delivered will reflect the successful candidates’ strengths, personality, and leadership style to achieve the shared objectives agreed with leadership.

About you

  • Strong working knowledge of UK Building Regulations and the Building Safety Act 2022.
  • Experience in managing regulatory compliance in a design, engineering, or construction context.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to lead, mentor, and influence at all levels.
  • Comfortable working across multiple teams and disciplines, translating central policy into local practice.
  • BR-PD or similar compliance role experience preferred (or readiness to step into the role with support).

As part of your onboarding and development, the following early priorities have been identified:

  • Familiarisation with latest BDP policies/procedures/obligations relating to technical design robustness, Compliance, CDM and BSA.
  • Engage with current Studio Projects to get a sense of Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities & Threats (SWOT).
  • Develop a plan/strategy to strengthen awareness and understanding of technical design robustness and Building Regulations compliance across the studio.
  • Develop studio-specific tools, guidance, and initiatives that support project compliance.
  • Be the Studio Champion to our Clients and other 3rd party stakeholders and lead our Project Teams ability to fulfil the duties relating to Building Regulations Principal Designer (BR-PD) and BR-PD Advisor on key projects.
  • The project teams will be responsible for producing the design information and main body of deliverables relating to these workstreams.
  • Act as the key communication link between the local studio and BDP’s wider Building Safety Group, staying aligned with national initiatives and evolving policy.

Stocktake (Month 4)

Subject to the initial Project Mobilisation period, we would arrange a stock-take on the alignment of the developing role/expectations with your career aspirations and agree any additional training, support, mentoring together with any realignment of the role and its expectations. Following this Stocktake the intention would be to develop a more detailed and informed ‘roll-out’ of the job role across Staff, Projects, Studio and Sectors based on the structure below.

Roll-out (Month 6+)

Central Support – BDP Building Safety Group

You’ll be integrated into BDP’s wider Building Safety Group (BSG)—a centralised team that:

  • Supports technical staff across studios in meeting compliance obligations.
  • Manages BDP’s response to the Building Safety Act 2022 and changes to The Building Regulations 2010.
  • Oversees the implementation of BR-PD roles across all applicable projects.
