Job Title: Senior Quantity Surveyor - Cost Consultancy / High Rise Location: North West Salary: £65,000 - £80,000 + Excellent Benefits Package Job Type: Permanent About the Company An independent and rapidly growing property and construction consultancy providing specialist Project Management, Quantity Surveying, Cost Consultancy and Building Surveying services across the UK. The cost consultancy team provides services from early feasibility and appraisal through procurement, tendering, value engineering, contract negotiation, cost control, valuations, variations and final accounts. The Role We are looking for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor / Senior Cost Consultant to join the cost consultancy team, working across major high-rise and complex development projects ranging from £10m to £150m. This is a senior opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor looking to take greater ownership of major commissions, develop client relationships and play an important role within a growing consultancy. You will be involved throughout the project lifecycle, providing strategic commercial and cost advice from initial feasibility and budget setting through procurement, construction and final account. The role will also involve supporting and mentoring more junior members of the team and helping to maintain the high level of service provided to clients. Key Responsibilities Lead Quantity Surveying and Cost Consultancy commissions across major development projects. Take responsibility for projects from feasibility through to final account. Prepare feasibility estimates, initial budgets and detailed cost plans. Develop and maintain project cost plans as designs progress. Provide senior-level commercial and cost advice to clients. Advise clients on procurement strategies and appropriate procurement routes. Prepare tender documentation and manage the tender process. Undertake detailed tender analysis and commercial comparisons. Assist with contractor selection and contract negotiations. Identify and manage value engineering opportunities. Monitor project costs against approved budgets. Produce regular cost reports and forecast final project costs. Provide commercial advice on design development and project changes. Assess and manage variations and change control. Undertake valuations and review contractor applications for payment. Monitor commercial and contractual risks throughout the project lifecycle. Negotiate and agree costs with contractors and suppliers. Assist clients with commercial issues, claims and dispute avoidance. Lead final account preparation and negotiations. Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, consultants and project teams. Attend client and project meetings, providing clear commercial advice and challenge. Mentor and support Assistant and intermediate Quantity Surveyors. Contribute to the continued development and growth of the cost consultancy service. The Ideal Candidate The successful candidate will ideally have: Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor / Senior Cost Consultant within a consultancy / PQS environment. Strong experience working on major construction and development projects. Experience within high-rise, residential, Build to Rent, commercial or mixed-use developments. Experience working on projects valued between £10m and £150m would be highly advantageous. Strong knowledge of cost planning, estimating and commercial cost control. Proven experience managing tenders and procurement processes. Strong understanding of construction contracts and procurement routes. Experience with valuations, variations, cost reporting and final accounts. Excellent commercial awareness and understanding of project risk. Strong client-facing and stakeholder management skills. Ability to lead projects and provide senior commercial advice. Experience mentoring or developing junior surveyors. Excellent communication, negotiation and analytical skills. Relevant Quantity Surveying / Construction qualification. RICS Chartered status or progression towards chartership would be advantageous.
