They specialise in delivering road surfacing, highways, and infrastructure works for both public and private sector clients. Our client is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor with a background in road surfacing to join their commercial team in Wigan. This role will see you taking commercial responsibility for a variety of surfacing and associated civils projects, ensuring cost control, financial reporting, accurate valuations, and strong commercial performance across the portfolio.
Responsibilities will include:
- Managing the commercial and financial elements of road surfacing and minor civils projects.
- Preparing detailed cost plans, budgets, and forecasts.
- Carrying out valuations, variations, and final accounts.
- Procuring subcontractors, negotiating terms, and managing ongoing commercial relationships.
- Preparing tender documentation and supporting bid processes where required.
- Ensuring accurate cost capture, cost reporting, and project profitability tracking.
- Identifying and managing commercial risks throughout project lifecycle.
- Working closely with operational teams to drive value and maintain project standards.
- Ensuring compliance with NEC/JCT contracts and company governance.
What you will need to succeed:
- Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor within road surfacing, asphalt, highways, or civil engineering.
- Strong understanding of NEC and JCT forms of contract.
- Experience managing commercial aspects of surfacing works including measurement and valuations.
- Excellent analytical, financial, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple live projects and maintain accuracy under pressure.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach.
- Relevant qualification (Degree/HND in Quantity Surveying or equivalent preferred).
