About the Company

Our client is a specialist contractor operating within the passive fire protection sector, delivering fire stopping, compartmentation, fire door, and associated fire protection solutions across a wide range of projects. The business works across the UK, Ireland, and Europe, delivering both project-based fire protection packages and planned/reactive maintenance contracts. Due to continued growth, they are now looking to appoint an experienced Passive Fire Estimator to strengthen their commercial team.

The ideal candidate will be based in the North West and ideally able to work from the St Helens office. However, the business is open to considering an exceptional candidate who is based further afield.

The Role

As Passive Fire Estimator, you will take responsibility for pricing a range of passive fire protection tenders, ensuring accurate and commercially competitive submissions are produced and successfully handed over to the delivery team. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Pricing tenders for fire stopping and compartmentation packages
  • Pricing planned and reactive maintenance contracts across the UK, Ireland, and EU
  • Completing detailed take-offs from drawings, surveys, and specifications
  • Building accurate rates covering labour, materials, plant, access, and preliminaries
  • Liaising with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations
  • Attending site visits, pre-tender meetings, and client meetings where required
  • Preparing clear and well-documented tender submissions
  • Providing a comprehensive handover to the Contracts Team and Quantity Surveyor when work is secured
  • Reviewing completed projects against original estimates
  • Working closely with the QS to identify lessons learned and improve future pricing
  • Managing multiple tender enquiries and ensuring deadlines are met

The Ideal Candidate

The successful Passive Fire Estimator will have:

  • Proven estimating experience within the passive fire protection industry
  • Genuine technical and commercial competence across firestopping and compartmentation
  • Experience with intumescent products and fire doors would be highly advantageous
  • Strong understanding of third-party accreditation, fire door standards, and current fire safety legislation would be preferred
  • Confident ability to read drawings and specifications and complete accurate take-offs
  • Strong understanding of labour, material, plant, access, and preliminaries costs
  • Excellent commercial judgement
  • Strong supplier and subcontractor negotiation skills
  • Highly organised and methodical approach
  • Ability to manage multiple enquiries and competing deadlines
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Confident telephone communicator with the ability to engage comfortably with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and colleagues
  • Full UK Driving Licence
