Due to continued growth, they are now looking to recruit an ambitious Assistant Buyer to join their Procurement team based in Oldham. The Role As Assistant Buyer, you will be responsible for: Supporting the procurement team with the sourcing of construction materials, plant, and subcontract services Obtaining and evaluating supplier quotations to achieve best value Assisting with supplier negotiations and procurement activities Raising, processing, and tracking purchase orders Coordinating material deliveries to ensure project programmes are maintained Building and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers and manufacturers Monitoring supplier performance, lead times, and delivery schedules Supporting cost control and procurement budget management Reviewing drawings and specifications to assist with material procurement Working closely with Commercial, Project Management, and Site Teams to understand procurement requirements Helping identify and mitigate supply chain risks Maintaining accurate procurement records and ensuring compliance with company procedures Supporting continuous improvement initiatives across the procurement function The Ideal Candidate The successful Assistant Buyer will have: Previous experience within a Buying, Procurement, Purchasing, or Supply Chain role within construction would be advantageous Alternatively, experience within a construction, commercial, or administrative environment with a desire to progress into procurement will be considered Strong communication and interpersonal skills Excellent organisational skills with a keen eye for detail Commercial awareness and a willingness to learn Good numerical and analytical skills Ability to prioritise workload and manage multiple tasks effectively Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work as part of a team Good Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel Full UK Driving Licence would be advantageous but is not essential What's on Offer Competitive basic salary of £35,000 - £55,000 Attractive benefits package Full-time, permanent position Opportunity to join a growing and well-respected construction contractor Ongoing training, mentoring, and professional development Excellent long-term career progression within procurement and commercial management Exposure to a wide variety of construction projects across the North West Supportive and collaborative working environment Apply: If you're interested in this opportunity, then please get in touch today with our Commercial Specialist, Mark Harris.
