They deliver high-end CAT A and CAT B commercial interiors across sectors including tech, finance, and education. Our client is seeking an experienced Freelance Quantity Surveyor to support a major commercial interiors project from their Altrincham base. This 6-month contract role will focus heavily on managing and valuing up to £1 million worth of contract variations, so a strong background in CAT A & B office fit-outs is essential. The QS will work closely with the commercial and project teams to maintain cost control, validate subcontractor claims, and ensure variations are accurately tracked, priced, and agreed.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the full commercial lifecycle of a CAT A & B office fit-out project.
  • Preparing, evaluating, and agreeing on variations totalling circa £1 million.
  • Assessing subcontractor applications and producing payment recommendations.
  • Performing accurate cost reporting and forecasting.
  • Preparing interim valuations and final accounts.
  • Monitoring project budgets and advising on cost-saving opportunities.
  • Supporting procurement and contract negotiation processes.
  • Liaising with the project team, stakeholders, and client representatives.
  • Ensuring all work is compliant with contractual and legal requirements.

What you will need to succeed:

  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor on CAT A & B fit-out projects.
  • Strong knowledge of contract variation processes and valuation methods.
  • Ideally degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying or a similar discipline.
  • Familiarity with JCT forms of contract.
  • High attention to detail and excellent negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and hit the ground running.
  • Strong communication and reporting skills.
  • Immediate availability or short notice preferred.
