We are working with a well-established and growing £40m turnover Contractor / Developer and House Builder who are looking to strengthen their Commercial team with the appointment of a Materials Buyer. This is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive and collaborative business with a strong pipeline of residential and mixed-use projects. The role will play a key part in ensuring materials are accurately procured, costed, and managed across multiple live and upcoming developments.
As Materials Buyer, you will be responsible for the procurement of building materials across multiple projects, ensuring best value, accuracy, and efficiency throughout the supply chain. A key requirement of this role is the ability to carry out take-offs from drawings to support accurate material scheduling and procurement.
Key Responsibilities- Carry out material take-offs directly from drawings
- Procure materials across multiple residential and construction projects
- Obtain competitive quotations and negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors
- Ensure materials are ordered accurately, on time, and within budget
- Work closely with Estimating, Commercial and Site teams
- Maintain and update procurement schedules and records
- Monitor material costs and support value engineering initiatives
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships
- Experience in a Materials Buyer, Buying Assistant or Procurement role within construction
- Must be confident carrying out take-offs from drawings
- Background in housebuilding, developer or main contractor environments preferred
- Strong understanding of construction materials and sequencing
- Excellent attention to detail and numerical accuracy
- Strong communication and negotiation skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and procurement systems
- Residential new-build experience
- Exposure to multi-project procurement environments
- Understanding of commercial/estimating processes
