About the Role

We are looking for a proactive, reliable and people-focused Housing Officer to join our team based in Chester. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a portfolio of properties and supporting tenants to maintain their tenancies, ensuring properties are well managed, compliant and maintained to a high standard. This is a varied role that requires excellent communication skills, good organisation and the ability to deal confidently with tenants, contractors and other professionals. Driving License is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of residential properties and tenancies.
  • Act as the main point of contact for tenants, responding to queries and resolving issues promptly.
  • Carry out regular property inspections and tenancy visits.
  • Identify and report repairs, maintenance issues and health and safety concerns.
  • Liaise with contractors and maintenance teams to ensure works are completed efficiently.
  • Monitor rent accounts and work with tenants to address arrears or payment issues.
  • Support with tenancy enforcement where required, following relevant policies and procedures.
  • Manage tenancy changes, new tenancies, renewals and terminations.
  • Ensure properties meet required standards and are safe, clean and appropriately maintained.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date tenancy and property records.
  • Deal professionally with complaints, anti-social behaviour and tenancy-related issues.
  • Work closely with internal teams and external agencies where appropriate.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in line with housing legislation, policies and procedures.
  • Attend properties and meetings as required within the Chester area.

About You

  • Experienced in housing, property management, tenancy management or a similar role.
  • Confident dealing with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
  • Able to handle difficult or sensitive situations professionally.
  • Highly organised, with excellent attention to detail.
  • A confident communicator, both verbally and in writing.
  • Able to manage a busy workload and prioritise effectively.
  • Proactive, reliable and able to work independently.
  • Comfortable using IT systems and maintaining accurate records.
  • Customer-focused with a professional and approachable manner.
