We are currently recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team supporting the delivery of major power and energy infrastructure projects across the UK. This is a key opportunity to take a leading commercial role within a growing energy programme, working on complex and high-value infrastructure schemes that are critical to the UK's transition to sustainable energy.
The Opportunity
As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for the full commercial management of energy transmission, substation, and associated infrastructure projects. You will play a vital role in ensuring strong cost control, effective contract administration, and proactive management of change throughout the project lifecycle. Working closely with project teams, engineers, and senior stakeholders, you will help drive successful delivery across multiple workstreams within a fast-paced and technically challenging environment. This role offers hybrid working with 2 days per week on site, providing a strong balance between flexibility and hands-on project involvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the commercial management of power and energy infrastructure projects
- Administer and manage contracts (primarily NEC, Option C experience desirable)
- Manage the full lifecycle of Compensation Events and change control processes
- Maintain control of Defined Cost, budgets, and cost forecasting
- Prepare detailed cost reports, valuations, and financial updates
- Oversee subcontractor procurement, payments, and account management
- Support risk identification, mitigation, and commercial opportunity management
- Provide clear commercial advice to project teams and senior stakeholders
- Ensure compliance with NEC procedures and client commercial governance
- Support negotiation and resolution of commercial issues where required
About You
- Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within the power, energy, or utilities sector
- Strong understanding of NEC contracts (essential)
- Experience with NEC Option C target cost contracts highly desirable
- Strong background in cost control, forecasting, and change management
- Demonstrable experience working on complex infrastructure projects
- Excellent commercial awareness and analytical capability
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams
