We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Managing Estimator on behalf of our client to lead the estimating function within their commercial team. This key role reports directly to the Commercial Director and is responsible for overseeing the preparation of competitive and accurate tenders while managing and mentoring a team of estimators. The role is based in Manchester, with occasional site visits, for which all associated costs will be reimbursed.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a key representative of the business, building strong client relationships and managing expectations from project concept through to site handover.
- Lead and manage the estimating department, ensuring timely and accurate tender submissions.
- Review tender documentation, compile supplier and subcontractor enquiries, and prepare detailed take-offs.
- Conduct thorough analysis of supply chain tender returns and finalise tender submissions using estimating software.
- Develop strategic insights into bid procedures to enhance competitiveness and secure new projects.
- Address post-tender queries, prepare budget costings, and support commercial teams during bid presentations.
- Attend and lead pre-tender meetings, contractor engagement sessions, and site visits.
- Prepare comprehensive handover packs and facilitate pre-start meetings following contract awards.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to junior estimators, supporting professional development within the team.
- Identify upcoming tender opportunities and collaborate with business development teams to drive growth.
Who Our Client Is Looking For
- Proven leadership ability, with a successful track record of managing an estimating team.
- Typically 5+ years' experience in estimating, with at least 1-3 years in a supervisory or management role.
- Experienced within Mechanical Estimating.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Trimble estimating software.
- Experience within the Healthcare and Education sectors.
- Experience delivering design and build projects.
- Strong analytical skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills, with a high level of professional integrity.
- A strategic mindset focused on driving efficiency and continuous improvement within the estimating function.
