A leading organisation within the UK construction and built environment sector is seeking an experienced Design Manager to join its growing team. This is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of design delivery across complex, high-value projects, including refurbishment, fire remediation, and re-cladding schemes.
The Role
As Design Manager, you will take full responsibility for leading design activities from pre-construction through to project delivery. You will act as the technical authority on allocated schemes, ensuring design solutions are robust, compliant, and deliverable.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and coordinating the design process across all project stages
- Providing technical input and support during tendering and bid phases
- Managing and driving design teams to meet programme and quality expectations
- Ensuring compliance with current building regulations and industry standards
- Collaborating closely with commercial, operational, and site teams
- Supporting and mentoring junior design staff where required
This role will involve working on higher-risk buildings (HRBs), with a strong focus on fire safety, compliance, and façade remediation.
About You
You will be a technically strong and commercially aware professional with a proven track record in construction design management.
Key experience & skills:
- Strong understanding of construction methods
- Experience across pre-construction and tender stages (single and two-stage)
- Working knowledge of contract forms such as JCT and NEC
- Ability to programme design works (e.g. Asta Powerproject or MS Project)
- Familiarity with BIM processes and Common Data Environments
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to lead, influence and drive outcomes across multidisciplinary teams
Qualifications
- Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or similar
- Professional membership (CIOB, RICS, RIBA, ICE) desirable
- Additional certifications in BIM, Project Management, or H&S are advantageous
