Our client is a well-established and highly respected civil engineering and infrastructure specialist delivering complex projects across the UK. With a strong focus on innovation, sustainability, and long-term client relationships, they continue to grow their presence across the UK infrastructure sector. Due to continued growth, they are now looking to appoint a senior leader to take responsibility for the development and performance of their Utilities Division.

The Role

As a senior leadership position within the business, you will take overall responsibility for the strategic development, operational performance, commercial success, and growth of the Utilities Division. You will work closely with the senior leadership team to develop the division, strengthen client relationships, identify new opportunities, and ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and profitably. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing strategic leadership across the Utilities Division
  • Taking responsibility for the overall performance and growth of the division
  • Developing and implementing the division's commercial and operational strategy
  • Identifying and securing new business opportunities within the utilities and infrastructure sectors
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with key clients and stakeholders
  • Overseeing the successful delivery of multiple utilities and infrastructure projects
  • Providing leadership and direction to operational, commercial, and project teams
  • Managing divisional budgets, forecasts, commercial performance, and profitability
  • Identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency and maximise margins
  • Supporting tendering and pre-construction activities
  • Ensuring projects are delivered in accordance with contractual, quality, health & safety, and environmental requirements
  • Managing key risks and ensuring appropriate mitigation strategies are in place
  • Developing and mentoring senior members of the team
  • Working closely with the wider Board and senior management team on business growth and strategic initiatives

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will have:

  • Proven senior leadership experience within utilities, civil engineering, infrastructure, or a closely related sector
  • A strong track record of managing and growing a business division or operational function
  • Significant experience delivering complex infrastructure projects
  • Strong commercial and financial management experience
  • Proven ability to develop client relationships and generate new business
  • Excellent understanding of the UK utilities and infrastructure market
  • Strong leadership and people-management skills
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams
  • Excellent commercial awareness with a strong understanding of project profitability and risk
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • A strategic and entrepreneurial approach to business development and growth
  • Relevant construction, civil engineering, or commercial qualification would be advantageous
  • Full UK Driving Licence
