Our client is an established civil engineering and groundworks contractor with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality work and achieving reliable results across the UK.
The business works on a range of prestigious commercial projects and has built its reputation around technical expertise, dependable project delivery and a highly skilled workforce.
Due to a new project in Derby, they are looking to appoint an experienced Groundworks Quantity Surveyor to take responsibility for the post-contract commercial management of a major groundworks package.
The Role
The successful Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for the post-contract commercial management of a £3.5m warehouse groundworks package in Derby.
This is a site-based commercial role requiring someone with a strong background in groundworks and civil engineering , who is confident managing the commercial aspects of a project from contract award through to final account.
The role offers a flexible working arrangement of 3 days on site and 2 days working from home .
Both permanent and freelance candidates will be considered.
Key Responsibilities

Take responsibility for the post-contract commercial management of the £3.5m groundworks package

Managing project costs, budgets and forecasts

Preparing and reviewing CVRs and financial reports

Managing subcontractor accounts and payments
-
Reviewing and agreeing valuations
-
Managing variations, compensation events and additional works

Monitoring project performance against budget

Identifying commercial risks and opportunities
-
Managing applications for payment and cash flow
-
Preparing and agreeing final accounts

Reviewing contract documentation and ensuring contractual compliance
-
Working closely with the Project Manager and site team

Liaising with the main contractor, client and supply chain

Providing accurate commercial information to senior management

Supporting the successful commercial delivery of the project from start to finish
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will have:

Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within groundworks / civil engineering

Strong groundworks experience is essential
-
Experience managing post-contract commercial activities
-
Previous experience working on projects of £3m+ would be advantageous

Strong knowledge of subcontract procurement and account management

Experience with valuations, variations, CVRs and final accounts

Strong commercial and contractual knowledge

Excellent cost control and forecasting skills

Good understanding of groundworks construction and methodology

Strong negotiation and communication skills

Ability to work independently and take ownership of the commercial function

Strong Excel and general IT skills

Relevant Quantity Surveying or commercial qualification would be advantageous
