Our client, a leading name in the fenestration and curtain walling sector, is seeking an experienced and hands-on R&D Manager to lead their Research & Development function. This is a pivotal role, responsible for driving innovation, delivering product development projects, and ensuring compliance with industry standards.
The ideal candidate will combine deep technical knowledge of fenestration systems with proven leadership ability and a track record of managing the full product lifecycle from concept through to testing and launch.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage the R&D department, setting strategy, implementing structured procedures and workflows, and delivering critical technical tasks.
Drive continuous development of existing products and lead the creation of new product ranges.
Plan, manage and deliver R&D projects on time, within scope and budget.
Oversee and actively participate in product testing (weather, security, thermal, acoustic, cycle).
Produce, check and approve CAD drawings, schedules, prototypes, and technical documentation.
Implement robust departmental procedures for product development, testing, and certification compliance.
Provide technical support to Design, Production, Installation, Sales, and Procurement teams.
Coach, develop and appraise R&D team members, ensuring effective task allocation and workload management.
Liaise with suppliers on materials sourcing, quality, and availability.
Represent the company professionally at client, supplier, and testing facilities.
Required Experience & Skills
Significant R&D or technical management experience in fenestration, curtain walling, or similar engineered products (typically 5+ years in a senior role).
Proven track record of delivering complete product development cycles (concept ? testing ? launch).
Strong understanding of testing standards (weather, security, thermal, acoustic, cycle performance).
Engineering/technical qualification (degree or HND) or time-served background in fenestration.
High-level proficiency in AutoCAD and Inventor, with ability to produce/check detailed drawings.
Working knowledge of scheduling software (e.g., Logikal, Schucal).
Competence in 3D modelling, thermal modelling, and 3D printing.
Deep knowledge of fenestration systems, hardware, fabrication methods, finishes, and installation practices.
Strong problem-solving and data analysis skills, with ability to interpret test results to drive product improvements.
Excellent communication skills - able to present complex technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Advanced IT skills (MS Office suite) and strong report-writing ability.
Full UK driving licence.
Proven leadership and people management experience.
