Our client is a well-established and growing civil engineering and groundworks contractor operating throughout the North West. With a strong reputation for delivering high-quality infrastructure, groundworks, and civil engineering projects, the business works in partnership with leading principal contractors across a diverse range of sectors.
Delivering projects typically valued between £300k and £3m, the company has built a strong portfolio of repeat business through its commitment to collaboration, reliability, commercial integrity, and exceptional project delivery. Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of secured work, they are now looking to appoint an experienced Quantity Surveyor to strengthen their commercial team.
We are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join the commercial team delivering civil engineering and commercial groundworks projects across the North West. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially aware individual capable of managing projects from pre-contract stage through to final account while ensuring strong commercial performance throughout the project lifecycle.
The successful candidate will work closely with operational teams, subcontractors, and clients to ensure projects are delivered profitably, on programme, and in line with contractual requirements.
Key Responsibilities:- Preparation, negotiation, and administration of subcontract agreements
- Procurement and management of subcontractors and suppliers
- Preparation and submission of interim valuations and applications for payment
- Management of variations and change control procedures
- Cost forecasting, budget management, and monthly reporting
- Margin management and commercial performance monitoring
- Preparation and agreement of final accounts
- Identification and management of commercial risks and opportunities
- Work closely with operational teams to ensure commercial objectives are achieved
- Maintain accurate commercial records and project documentation throughout the project lifecycle
- Build and maintain strong client and contractor relationships
- Support senior management with wider business and commercial objectives
- Previous experience within a Quantity Surveyor role within civil engineering or commercial groundworks
- Proven experience delivering projects valued between £300k and £3m
- Strong understanding of NEC and/or JCT contracts
- Excellent commercial awareness and negotiation skills
- Experience managing subcontractor procurement and accounts
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Commercially aware with strong negotiation and communication skills
- Full UK driving licence essential
- Ability to work effectively within a fast-paced project environment
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline
- Membership of, or working towards, RICS or a similar professional body
- Experience delivering infrastructure, highways, drainage, or groundworks packages
- Experience working for a civil engineering contractor
