Our client is looking to appoint an accomplished and commercially astute Managing Quantity Surveyor to oversee the commercial delivery of a diverse construction and development programme across the Northwest. This is a senior leadership role offering the opportunity to shape commercial strategy, lead a high-performing team and play a key part in delivering quality homes and sustainable communities. Managing a team of approximately 10 commercial professionals, you will work closely with the Commercial Director to ensure strong financial performance across a programme valued at around £40m annually.

The Role

As Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will provide strategic and operational commercial leadership across multiple development and construction projects. You will be responsible for maintaining robust financial control, protecting commercial interests and driving performance across the portfolio.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading, mentoring and developing the commercial team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement
  • Managing the monthly CVR process, ensuring accurate reporting, forecasting and visibility of cost-to-complete positions
  • Driving effective cost management, commercial governance and cashflow performance across projects
  • Overseeing the administration of contracts and subcontracts, including JCT and NEC forms of contract
  • Managing final accounts and supporting a proactive approach to commercial risk management and dispute resolution
  • Supporting wider business planning, resource allocation and delivery of commercial objectives
  • Providing commercial input to pre-construction activities, tenders and project planning to support future growth and profitability
  • Acting as a senior commercial representative, building strong relationships with internal teams, clients and external stakeholders
  • Promoting best practice in commercial management, financial compliance, risk management and health & safety standards

About You

To be successful in this role, you will be an experienced commercial leader with a strong background in construction or development environments and the ability to manage complex project portfolios.

You will ideally have:

  • Degree qualification in Quantity Surveying or equivalent (NVQ Level 6 or above)
  • Significant experience in a senior commercial or managing QS position
  • Strong knowledge of JCT and/or NEC contracts
  • Proven ability to lead and develop successful commercial teams
  • Experience within housing, regeneration, planned works or development sectors would be advantageous
  • Strong financial and analytical skills, including forecasting, reporting and cashflow management
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills with the ability to influence at senior level
  • A commercially strategic mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and performance
  • A collaborative leadership style and the confidence to operate within a senior management environment
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the region
  • Health & Safety qualification (or working towards) desirable
