Our client is a well-established and growing mechanical and electrical contractor, delivering high-quality building services solutions across a diverse range of sectors. With a strong reputation for technical expertise, reliability and long-term client relationships, they provide a comprehensive range of mechanical, electrical, data and maintenance services to major contractors, developers and end clients.

As part of their continued growth, they are looking to appoint an ambitious and commercially driven Business Development Manager to help identify new opportunities, develop strategic relationships and drive further growth across the business.

This is a key commercial role with responsibility for developing new business opportunities while strengthening existing relationships with clients, consultants, main contractors and other key stakeholders. You will have the opportunity to develop your own network, identify where the business can add value and take opportunities from initial engagement through to successful contract award. The successful candidate will understand that business development within the M&E sector is about more than simply winning work - it's about understanding clients, building trust and developing long-term partnerships.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a targeted business development strategy.
  • Identify and pursue new commercial opportunities across key sectors and markets.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with main contractors, developers, consultants and end clients.
  • Develop existing client relationships and identify opportunities for repeat and additional work.
  • Research upcoming projects, market trends and competitor activity to identify new opportunities.
  • Attend industry events, networking opportunities, client meetings and tender/prequalification meetings.
  • Work closely with estimating, pre-construction, commercial and operational teams to develop competitive proposals.
  • Manage opportunities through the full business development and sales cycle, from initial lead generation through to contract award.
  • Maintain an accurate pipeline and provide regular updates on opportunities and forecasts.
  • Identify strategic opportunities to expand the company's client base and market presence.
  • Represent the business professionally and develop its reputation within the M&E sector.

About you

We're looking for a proven Business Development Manager with experience within M&E, construction, building services or a closely related sector. You will ideally have:

  • Proven experience in business development within the M&E or construction industry.
  • An established network of contacts across main contractors, developers, consultants and/or end clients.
  • A strong understanding of mechanical and electrical contracting and the construction project lifecycle.
  • A demonstrable track record of generating and winning new business.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and negotiation skills.
  • Strong commercial awareness and the ability to identify profitable opportunities.
  • The confidence to engage with senior decision-makers and build relationships at all levels.
  • A proactive, self-motivated and entrepreneurial approach.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple opportunities.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with commercial, estimating and operational teams.
