Buildforce Solutions are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Site Manager on behalf of a reputable main contractor delivering a landmark high-rise Build-to-Rent development in Nottingham. This is an exciting opportunity to join a thriving business with a strong pipeline of residential and mixed-use projects, taking a leading role on a flagship multi-room scheme.
The Role
As Senior Site Manager, you will be responsible for leading the site team and overseeing daily site operations on a live construction project. Working closely with the Project Manager, you will play a key role in planning, coordination, quality assurance, health & safety, and programme delivery, ensuring the project is delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring a proactive individual who can drive performance, manage subcontractors, mentor junior staff, and maintain excellent standards across all aspects of the build.
Key Responsibilities
- Health & Safety
- Take overall ownership of Health & Safety performance on site
- Lead the management and close-out of H&S actions
- Promote a positive safety culture and lead by example
- Challenge unsafe behaviours and maintain a "don't walk by" attitude
- Ensure compliance with company procedures and industry regulations
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across the project
- Quality Assurance
- Take full ownership of QA processes on site
- Ensure quality procedures are followed by all site personnel
- Review design information against specifications and contract requirements
- Monitor workmanship standards and proactively address defects
- Maintain accurate QA records and documentation
- Champion a "right first time" approach across the project
- Site Leadership & Project Delivery
- Work closely with the Project Manager to develop weekly work plans and logistics strategies
- Lead labour management and subcontractor coordination
- Support programme development and short-term planning
- Chair contractor and coordination meetings
- Attend client meetings and progress reviews
- Ensure site activities are communicated effectively to all stakeholders
- Drive productivity whilst maintaining quality and safety standards
- Manage and develop junior members of the site team
- Work collaboratively with Design and M&E teams to ensure successful project delivery
- Support commercial reviews, procurement activities, subcontractor appointments and scope reviews
- Commercial Awareness
- Work closely with the Quantity Surveying team to monitor project costs
- Understand contractual obligations and programme implications
- Assist in identifying risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle
Candidate Requirements
The successful candidate will possess:
- SMSTS
- CSCS Management Card
- First Aid at Work
- Temporary Works Coordinator
In addition, applicants should have:
- A minimum of 4 years' experience operating as a Senior Site Manager on high-value, multi-room residential developments
- Previous experience delivering high-rise residential, Build-to-Rent, student accommodation, hotel or mixed-use schemes
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Good commercial awareness and understanding of construction contracts
- Excellent planning and coordination abilities
- Strong IT and reporting skills
- Outstanding communication and stakeholder management capabilities
- The ability to mentor and develop site teams
- References available from previous multi-room developments
Ideally, candidates will live within approximately one hour of Birmingham, although flexibility to travel may be required depending on future business needs.
