Build Warranty is continuing to grow and we are looking to recruit an experienced Chartered Building Surveyor to join our technical team, covering the South East of the UK. This is an excellent opportunity for a surveyor who wants to work within a forward-thinking structural warranty provider that combines robust technical auditing, professional claim assessment, modern technology, efficient processes and a high-quality client experience.
At Build Warranty, our role is to support developers, contractors, homeowners, lenders and insurers by providing clear, consistent and professional technical auditing throughout the construction process, together with fair and technically robust assessment of claims where issues arise. Our approach is built around strong technical standards, practical risk management and our proprietary LDI Tech platform, which has been developed to streamline the warranty process for clients, surveyors, underwriters, insurers and other stakeholders.
The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking and overseeing technical audits on residential and mixed-use developments across the South East, ensuring that construction works are reviewed in accordance with Build Warranty’s technical requirements, insurer expectations and recognised industry standards. A key part of the role will be reviewing inspection reports submitted by the Build Warranty surveyor team, assessing technical findings, managing points of attention and liaising with clients, developers and site teams to ensure matters are clearly understood, appropriately addressed and closed out in a timely manner.
The role will also involve supporting the assessment of claims under structural warranty policies, including reviewing reported defects, assessing technical cause, considering policy response, preparing professional reports and liaising with relevant stakeholders. You will work closely with developers, contractors, site teams, homeowners, surveyors, underwriters, insurers and our internal technical team to help identify risk areas early, provide clear reporting and support the delivery of high-quality completed developments.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out technical audits and site inspections on residential construction projects across the South East.
- Review inspection reports submitted by the Build Warranty surveyor team.
- Assess technical findings, observations and points of attention raised during site inspections.
- Liaise with clients, developers, contractors and site teams in relation to points of attention and required remedial action.
- Monitor and support the close-out of points of attention to ensure matters are resolved satisfactorily.
- Review drawings, technical information, specifications and construction details.
- Identify potential defects, non-compliance issues and construction risks.
- Produce clear and professional inspection reports.
- Support the technical assessment of new warranty applications.
- Undertake claim assessments in relation to reported defects under structural warranty policies.
- Inspect and assess alleged defects, damage or construction issues where claims are notified.
- Consider causation, extent of damage, remedial requirements and policy relevance.
- Prepare clear technical claim reports for internal review, insurers and relevant stakeholders.
- Liaise professionally with homeowners, developers, contractors, consultants, insurers and internal teams.
- Assist with the development of technical standards, processes, risk controls and claims assessment procedures.
- Provide guidance to surveyors and site teams where required.
- Help ensure projects meet the requirements for structural warranty cover.
About You
We are looking for someone with strong technical knowledge, commercial awareness and a practical understanding of residential construction, defects and remedial works. Ideally, you will have:
- MRICS, MCABE, MCIOB or equivalent chartered status.
- Experience in building surveying, building control, structural warranty, technical auditing, claims assessment or residential construction.
- Strong knowledge of construction detailing, Building Regulations, defects, causation and remedial solutions.
- Experience inspecting new-build residential developments.
- The ability to review surveyor reports, interpret technical findings and manage points of attention through to resolution.
- The confidence to liaise directly with clients, developers and site teams on technical matters.
- Excellent written reporting and communication skills.
- The ability to work independently and make sound technical judgements.
- A professional, client-facing approach.
- A genuine interest in improving standards through technology, efficiency and better technical oversight.
- Experience within structural warranty, latent defects insurance, building control, residential development, high-rise residential, technical risk auditing or property claims assessment would be highly advantageous.
