An established main contractor operating in the logistics, industrial, and commercial sector is strengthening its commercial teams due to a strong secured pipeline of work. They are now seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to take commercial ownership of major live projects, including a £30m distribution facility in Newport and a £100m logistics park in Basingstoke. This is a senior delivery role, suited to a commercially strong QS who is comfortable running projects end-to-end and operating as a visible, trusted commercial lead on site.
Key Responsibilities
- Full commercial management of large-scale construction projects from pre-construction through to final account
- Preparing and managing project budgets, forecasts, and cost reports
- Leading procurement strategy and letting major subcontract packages
- Contract administration (JCT / Design & Build), including change control, variations, and valuations
- Managing and mentoring Assistant / Project Quantity Surveyors
- Commercial risk and opportunity management
- Client liaison and attendance at commercial / progress meetings
- Managing subcontractor accounts, applications for payment, and final accounts
- Supporting project teams to ensure commercial best practice and margin protection
- Working closely with project management, design, and operational teams
What They’re Looking For
- Proven experience operating as a Senior QS (or strong Project QS ready to step up)
- Background with a main contractor delivering industrial, logistics, commercial, or similar build projects
- Track record of running projects commercially rather than supporting only
- Strong knowledge of procurement, subcontract management, and cost control
- Confident communicator, able to deal directly with clients and senior stakeholders
- Good contractual knowledge (JCT / D&B preferred)
- Structured, commercially aware, and delivery-focused
