Overview
We are seeking a proactive and ambitious Health & Safety Manager (No.2) to support the Lead Health & Safety Manager on a high-profile data centre project based in Brent Cross / Staples Corner. Working for a Tier 1/2 main contractor, you will play a key role in implementing and maintaining the company’s Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) management systems, ensuring full compliance across all site activities. This is an excellent opportunity to join a technically complex, large-scale scheme with strong career progression potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Lead H&S Manager in delivering the project’s Health & Safety strategy.
- Promote and maintain a strong safety culture across site, engaging with operatives, subcontractors and management teams.
- Carry out regular site inspections and audits, reporting findings and assisting with close-out of actions.
- Monitor site activities to ensure compliance with company policies, ISO standards and current legislation.
- Review RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements) and provide feedback to subcontractors.
- Support site teams with toolbox talks, inductions and safety briefings.
- Attend and contribute to pre-start meetings and high-risk activity planning workshops.
- Assist in the investigation of incidents, near misses and environmental events, ensuring reports are completed within required timescales.
- Track corrective actions and support operational management in implementing improvements.
- Support internal and external audits, ensuring documentation is accurate and up to date.
- Maintain accurate H&S records, reports and site documentation.
- Stop unsafe works where necessary and escalate concerns to the Lead H&S Manager or senior site management.
- Ensure all employees, subcontractors and visitors adhere to site safety requirements at all times.
Candidate Requirements
- NEBOSH Construction Certificate (or equivalent).
- 2–5 years’ experience in a construction Health & Safety role.
- Experience on large-scale construction or data centre projects is desirable.
- Good knowledge of current UK H&S legislation and best practice.
- Strong communication skills with the confidence to challenge and influence when required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Organised, proactive and career driven.
