The Operations Manager is responsible for the overall operational performance of the business, ensuring the successful delivery of commercial flooring projects across multiple sites. This role provides strategic and hands-on leadership across project management, site operations, health & safety, quality, resourcing, and profitability.

The successful candidate will work closely with directors, commercial teams, project managers, and site supervisors to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operational Leadership
    • Oversee day-to-day operations across all commercial flooring projects
    • Lead and manage Project Managers, Site Managers, and Supervisors
    • Ensure consistent delivery standards across all sites
    • Implement and improve operational processes, systems, and controls
  • Project & Programme Management
    • Oversee project planning, programming, and resource allocation
    • Monitor project progress, productivity, and performance
    • Identify and resolve operational risks, delays, and constraints
    • Support project teams with technical and logistical challenges
  • Commercial & Financial Management
    • Manage operational budgets, costs, and profit margins
    • Work closely with estimating and commercial teams on project handovers
    • Monitor variations, final accounts, and cost control
    • Identify opportunities for value engineering and efficiency improvements
  • Health, Safety, Quality & Compliance
    • Ensure full compliance with health & safety legislation and company policies
    • Promote a strong health & safety culture across the business
    • Oversee quality assurance procedures and workmanship standards
    • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, specifications, and contracts
  • Resource & Supply Chain Management
    • Oversee labour planning, including direct labour and subcontractors
    • Manage supplier relationships and procurement processes
    • Ensure materials, plant, and equipment are available and cost-effective
  • Client & Stakeholder Management
    • Maintain strong relationships with clients, main contractors, and consultants
    • Attend senior-level meetings and resolve escalated issues
    • Support business development through repeat work and client satisfaction
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and profitability
    • Develop and mentor operational teams
    • Contribute to strategic planning and business growth initiatives
Skills & Experience Required
  • Proven experience in an Operations Manager / Senior Contracts Manager role
  • Strong background in commercial flooring, finishes, or construction subcontracting
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects and teams
  • Strong commercial awareness and financial management skills
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making abilities
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities
Qualifications (Desirable)
  • Construction-related qualification or relevant trade background
  • SMSTS / NEBOSH / IOSH (or equivalent)
  • Strong knowledge of construction contracts and commercial processes
