- Job Summary
Build Recruitment are looking for a steel Fitter to assemble, install, and fit structural steel components on a construction project.
They will work from technical drawings to accurately position, align, and secure steelwork while ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret engineering drawings, site plans, and technical specifications.
- Measure, mark out, and prepare steel components for installation.
- Install structural steel beams, columns, staircases, balustrades, platforms, and architectural metalwork.
- Align, level, and secure steelwork using bolts, welding, and fixing systems.
- Operate lifting equipment, MEWPs, telehandlers, and cranes safely (where certified).
- Use hand and power tools including grinders, drills, impact wrenches, and cutting equipment.
- Carry out site modifications to steel components where required.
- Work alongside welders, fabricators, crane operators, and site management to ensure projects are completed on schedule.
- Inspect completed installations to ensure they meet engineering specifications and quality standards.
- Adhere to health and safety legislation, risk assessments, and method statements.
- Maintain tools and equipment in good working order.
- Complete site documentation and report any defects or issues.
- Key Skills & Experience
- Experience fitting structural steelwork on construction or industrial projects.
- Ability to read and interpret technical and fabrication drawings.
- Skilled in using hand and power tools.
- Good understanding of steel connections, bolt tightening procedures, and alignment techniques.
- Strong problem-solving and practical skills.
- Ability to work at height and in physically demanding environments.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
