Role Overview
We are currently recruiting for a Maintenance Operative to support the upkeep and repair of multiple sites across North London. This is a mobile role, so candidates must be based within North London and hold a full UK manual driving licence. The role involves carrying out a range of planned and reactive maintenance tasks to ensure buildings remain safe, compliant, and well maintained. We are looking for someone who can work independently, manage their own workload, and provide a professional service at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- The successful candidate will carry out a multi-skilled maintenance role with minimal supervision, while recognising tasks that fall outside of their skill set. A strong understanding of general building maintenance and high standards of workmanship are essential.
Plumbing
- A strong plumbing background is required, including:
- Attending minor leaks on hot and cold pipework
- Replacing taps and washers
- Clearing internal waste pipe blockages
- Minor tile replacements and refixing sanitary ware
Fire Door Maintenance
- Previous fire door experience is essential. Duties may include:
- Basic fire door inspections and adjustments
- Replacing hinges, seals and ironmongery
- Ensuring fire doors remain compliant and operational
- Reporting any major defects or compliance concerns
Additional Maintenance Duties
Carpentry
- Adjusting timber or steel framed doors
- Fitting and adjusting door closers
- Re-hanging doors where required
- Installing or replacing lock mechanisms
- Fitting shelving and repairing cabinet or locker doors
Painting and Decorating
- Carrying out touch-up repairs to damaged surfaces
- Painting internal areas such as offices and storage spaces
- Repainting bollards, trolleys and floor areas where required
General Repairs and Fabric Maintenance
- Carrying out repairs to storage units and general fixtures
- Installing replacement locks, signage and door plates
- Repairing minor damage and carrying out basic fabric repairs
- Refitting bump strips and protective plates
- Removing sharp edges and completing minor repairs safely
Electrical
- Carrying out basic electrical tasks such as replacing lamps and starters
Requirements
- Must live within North London
- Full UK manual driving licence essential
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar maintenance or facilities role
- Fire door maintenance experience essential
- Plumbing experience essential
- Relevant trade qualifications desirable
- Good understanding of health and safety procedures
- Comfortable using ladders, tools and access equipment safely
