Build Recruitment are currently working in partnership with a leading resident-managed housing organisation to recruit a Fire & Building Safety Officer to join their Property Services team in South East London. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced building safety, fire safety, compliance or housing professional to play a key role in supporting resident safety across a diverse social housing portfolio. The successful candidate will work closely with residents, contractors, consultants and operational teams to help deliver building safety programmes, monitor compliance activities and support the organisation's commitment to maintaining safe homes and communities.

The Role

  • Supporting the delivery of building safety and fire safety programmes across residential properties
  • Monitoring and coordinating fire safety, compliance and building safety actions
  • Supporting audits, inspections, safety reviews and regulatory activities
  • Maintaining accurate building safety records and Golden Thread information
  • Reviewing Fire Risk Assessments (FRAs) and monitoring associated actions
  • Supporting fire door, compartmentation and passive fire protection programmes
  • Assisting with Higher-Risk Building (HRB) compliance activities
  • Monitoring building safety risks and escalating issues where required
  • Preparing reports, dashboards and safety-related communications
  • Supporting resident engagement initiatives relating to building safety and fire safety
  • Liaising with residents, contractors, consultants, local authority representatives and internal stakeholders
  • Supporting governance, assurance and compliance reporting activities
  • Participating in an out-of-hours liaison rota when required

Requirements

  • Experience working within social housing, property services, building safety, fire safety or compliance environments
  • Experience supporting building safety or fire safety programmes
  • Experience working with residents, contractors, consultants and operational teams
  • Experience managing actions, risks, compliance activities or assurance processes
  • Knowledge of Fire Risk Assessments (FRA), fire doors and compartmentation
  • Understanding of Golden Thread principles and resident engagement requirements
  • Awareness of Higher-Risk Building (HRB) requirements and building safety legislation
  • Strong organisational, communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to analyse information and maintain accurate records
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to residents and stakeholders

Essential Qualifications

  • Level 4 qualification (or equivalent experience) in Building Safety, Fire Safety, Construction, Property Management, Asset Management, Building Control or a related discipline
  • IOSH Managing Safely, NEBOSH Fire Safety or equivalent health and safety/fire safety training
  • Demonstrable awareness of building safety legislation and resident safety responsibilities
  • Fire safety or building safety training in the following areas: Fire Risk Assessments, Passive Fire Protection, Compartmentation, Fire Door Inspections, Building Safety Act Awareness, High-Rise Residential Building Safety, Resident Engagement Strategies

Desirable

  • Experience within social housing or local authority housing management
  • Membership of or working towards membership with CIH, IFE, IFSM or CIOB
  • Qualifications in Fire Risk Assessment, Building Safety, Fire Door Inspection, Passive Fire Protection or Health & Safety
  • Experience contributing to Safety Cases or Higher-Risk Building management
  • Knowledge of Building Safety Act 2022, Fire Safety Act 2021, Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022, Health & Safety at Work Act 1974
