The Production Manager is responsible for overseeing and optimising all manufacturing operations relating to uPVC windows, doors, curtain walling, and cladding systems. The role ensures production targets are met safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards, while maintaining compliance with industry regulations, customer specifications, and company objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Production & Operations Management
    • Plan, coordinate, and control daily production activities to meet delivery schedules and customer requirements.
    • Manage end-to-end manufacturing processes including fabrication, assembly, glazing, and finishing.
    • Monitor production output, efficiency, and waste, implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Ensure effective use of machinery, labour, and materials.
  • Quality Control & Compliance
    • Ensure all products meet required quality standards, specifications, and tolerances.
    • Oversee implementation and adherence to quality management systems (e.g. ISO standards where applicable).
    • Investigate non-conformances and implement corrective and preventative actions.
    • Ensure compliance with relevant building regulations, British/European Standards, and client specifications.
  • Health, Safety & Environment
    • Enforce strict adherence to Health & Safety policies and procedures across the production facility.
    • Conduct risk assessments, toolbox talks, and safety audits.
    • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with COSHH and machinery regulations.
  • Team Leadership & Development
    • Lead, motivate, and manage production supervisors, team leaders, and operatives.
    • Set clear performance objectives and carry out appraisals and disciplinary procedures where required.
    • Identify training needs and support skills development within the production team.
    • Foster a positive, productive, and accountable working environment.
  • Planning, Stock & Cost Control
    • Work closely with procurement and planning teams to ensure material availability.
    • Monitor stock levels of profiles, glass, hardware, and ancillary components.
    • Control production costs, labour efficiency, and scrap levels.
    • Contribute to budgeting and forecasting activities.
  • Cross-Department Collaboration
    • Liaise with Sales, Design, Technical, and Installation teams to ensure smooth project delivery.
    • Provide technical and production input during project planning and problem resolution.
    • Support continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Proven experience in a production or manufacturing management role within the uPVC window, door, curtain walling, or facade industry.
  • Strong understanding of uPVC fabrication processes, glazing systems, and associated machinery.
  • Excellent leadership and people-management skills.
  • Solid knowledge of Health & Safety regulations in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Strong organisational, planning, and problem-solving skills.

Desirable

  • Experience with curtain walling and cladding systems.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Familiarity with production planning software or ERP systems.
  • Relevant manufacturing, engineering, or management qualification.
