My client is an East Midlands based independent construction contractor with longstanding customer relationships stretching back over two decades. These projects consist of New Builds and Refurbishments, primarily in the residential and commercial sectors, carried out on a Design & Build basis.

The Quality Control Building Inspector Role involves reporting to the Construction Director. The successful candidate will act as an in-house Building Inspector and Clerk of Works, ensuring the quality of the day-to-day construction work packages being undertaken by the client as the main contractor and various external subcontractors. Typical projects are valued from approximately Β£3m to Β£8m, predominantly based in the East Midlands and Yorkshire regions.

This person will be office based but will go out to sites, must be organised and self-motivated to succeed. The successful candidate will be the on-site champion of their quality assurance policy and actively work towards delivering a defect-free construction aligned with client expectations and all regulatory standards met.

Key Roles & Responsibilities of the Quality Manager role include:

  • Maintain and develop existing project-specific Inspection and audits
  • Coordinate and conduct pre-works, in-progress, and completion inspections across all trades involved in the project
  • Monitor subcontractor workmanship and compliance with project designs, specifications and regulations
  • Raise, track, and close out any non-conformances and the corrective actions required by contractors
  • Produce photographic inspection reports and site quality records
  • Maintain a Quality Register, tracking trends and repeat issues
  • Contribute to weekly and monthly quality reporting
  • Support external audits, building control inspections, client led inspections and ISO 9001 audits
  • Promote continuous improvement and lessons learned across the site team, Contracts Manager, Site manager, design manager etc.

The Successful Quality Manager:

  • Degree, HNC/HND in Construction, Civil Engineering, or related field
  • Minimum 5 years' quality management experience with a UK main contractor
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 and quality auditing processes
  • CSCS Black card
  • Experience preparing or managing reports
  • Confident in site-based tools for audits
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to various sites

Desirable:

  • Lead Auditor (ISO 9001) qualification
  • SMSTS certified
  • CQI or CIOB membership
  • Experience on multi-room projects; residential care homes, hospitals, or commercial buildings
