The Opportunity
This is a drafting focused paralegal role supporting estate planning, elder law, probate, and Medicaid matters. The position centers on preparing estate planning documents, probate pleadings, and Medicaid applications, while working closely with attorneys to keep matters moving accurately and on schedule. You will interact directly with clients, gather and organize required information, and play a meaningful role in helping families feel supported and confident throughout the process.
What You Will Do
- Draft estate planning documents using drafting software, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, advance directives, deeds, and related documents.
- Prepare probate pleadings and support estate administration matters.
- Assist with Medicaid applications for nursing home clients, including organizing financial documentation and responding to agency requests.
- Coordinate document execution, notarization, and post signing follow up.
- Communicate professionally and compassionately with clients regarding timelines, required information, and next steps.
- Maintain organized case files and track deadlines to ensure matters stay on course.
About You
You are detail oriented, dependable, and take pride in producing accurate, well-organized work. You understand the importance of deadlines and confidentiality, and you communicate clearly and respectfully with clients, attorneys, and team members. You are comfortable working independently, but value collaboration and follow through. Most importantly, you genuinely care about helping people during sensitive and important moments in their lives.
Experience and Skills
- 1-2 years' experience in estate planning, elder law, probate, or a related legal practice area.
- Strong drafting skills and attention to detail.
- Professional phone presence and client communication skills.
- Comfort learning and working with legal and drafting software.
- Ability to manage multiple matters and shifting priorities effectively.
- Alabama Notary certification preferred, or willingness to obtain with firm support.
- Experience with Clio, Lawmatics, or WealthDocx is helpful but not required; training will be provided.
Salary range of $50,000 to $55,000, depending on experience. Paid holidays, paid time off, and sick time. Retirement plan launching in 2026. Free parking. Supportive, collegial office environment with room for growth.
