We are working with a well-established, multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy to recruit a Senior / Principal Drainage Infrastructure Engineer to join their growing Cardiff team. This is an exciting opportunity for a bright, enthusiastic, and open-minded individual to help lead a Drainage Infrastructure team, supporting the delivery of civil engineering design across a diverse portfolio of infrastructure projects. Working within a collaborative environment and reporting to senior leadership, you will play a key role in leading the design and delivery of projects with a strong focus on Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SuDS) and conventional surface water drainage design. This is a varied and technically challenging role suited to someone who thrives on solving engineering problems and takes pride in delivering high-quality solutions for clients.
The Role
- Assist in leading the delivery of civil engineering design across infrastructure projects
- Lead surface water and foul water drainage strategies and detailed designs
- Deliver SuDS and conventional drainage solutions
- Manage multiple concurrent projects and prioritise deliverables
- Provide technical support and resource planning
- Support and mentor engineers at varying levels of experience
- Liaise with statutory bodies including Natural Resources Wales and the Environment Agency
- Manage Water Authority statutory approval processes (S104, S106, etc.)
- Build and maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships
Skills & Experience Required
- 7+ years' experience in surface and foul water design and/or construction
- Strong knowledge of Sewers for Adoption and Design Manual for Roads and Bridges
- Civil Engineering degree (Masters preferred)
- Chartered status with ICE or CIWEM (or close to completion)
- Proficient in 3D design and modelling software including: MicroDrainage, InfoDrainage, AutoCAD, Civils 3D, Autodesk ICM
- Experience with: S104 and S106 approval processes, SuDS Approval Body (SAB) approvals, National Planning Policy and flood risk management requirements
- Demonstrable team leadership capability
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Proactive and methodical approach to problem-solving
