Our registered building inspectors manage a range of interesting projects from small domestic extensions to major commercial developments, liaising with clients, design teams, architects and builders. You will provide professional support to them acting as the compliance lead, whilst ensuring that value is added for our customers, at each stage of the build process.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work collaboratively with clients, the design team and Contractors at key stages of the process, ensuring satisfactory compliance oversight in line with relevant legislation.
  • Carry out inspections in line with Build Insight’s risk-based inspection regime on building projects within your class of competence (Class 2/3), ensuring compliance with Building Regulations and associated legislation.
  • Provide professional communication with stakeholders.
  • Assess and process building control applications.
  • Support LAs with their regularisation process where reversion of projects is required.
  • Produce accurate, detailed inspection records and maintain digital records in line with QA systems and in accordance with the Code of Conduct for RBIs.
  • Ensure relevant statutory periods are adhered to and take action as required.
  • Issue plan certificates as requested and issue Final Certificates as appropriate.
  • Investigate and resolve breaches of the Building Regulations, working collaboratively with Local Authorities where necessary.
  • Keep up to date with changes in legislation, construction practices, and regulatory guidance.
  • Take all reasonable steps to attend site visits across the agreed service area as required.
  • Participate in mentoring colleagues and perform supervisory activities with developing inspectors.
  • Participate in internal training, peer reviews, and continuing professional development (CPD) activities.
  • Ability to work at height and climb ladders.
  • Take active responsibility for own safety and apply a reasonable awareness of others on sites.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the Building Control service.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • A chartered professional membership with RICS, CIOB or CABE.
  • Registered as a Class 2 (2A-2F) or Class 3 Building Inspector with the BSR.
  • Level 6 qualification in Building Control, Construction, or related discipline.
  • Solid construction industry experience and knowledge of Building Regulations and the ability to make pragmatic decisions.
  • Demonstrate customer focused approach.
  • High standard of written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience of interacting with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient use of IT systems and development of systems to improve efficiencies and effectiveness.
  • Ability to use BlueBeam software.
  • An in depth understanding of relevant legislation, guidance and associated documentation.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Experience working with Building Control bodies (public or private).
  • Experience handling enforcement actions or compliance issues.
  • Knowledge of working with application management software systems.
