Senior Lighting Artist (FTC)

Description

As our new Lighting Artist, you will join a small but specialised team of other Lighting Artists working on our large scale and high quality AAA games. You will be tasked with creating visually stunning lighting that brings our virtual worlds to life.
You would join our team on an FTC basis for an initial term of 6 months. For this role, you need to have experience working on in-game lighting, ideally on a project working with Unreal Engine 5.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Collaborate with artists, designers, and programmers to create high-quality lighting solutions and atmospheres for games using Unreal Engine 5.
  2. Develop and implement lighting styles that enhance the visual appeal of characters, environments, and special effects.
  3. Optimize lighting setups for performance and memory usage while maintaining visual quality.
  4. Create custom shaders and materials as needed to achieve desired lighting effects.
  5. Work independently to solve complex lighting challenges and collaborate with other teams to resolve cross-functional issues.
  6. Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders about progress, challenges, and solutions related to lighting design.
  7. Manage time efficiently to meet project deadlines while maintaining a high level of quality in your work.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

  1. Experience as a Lighting Artist or similar role in the game industry.
  2. Expertise in Unreal Engine 5 or equivalent.
  3. Strong understanding of colour theory, composition, and visual storytelling principles as they apply to lighting design in games.
  4. Proficiency in using industry-standard tools such as Maya or 3ds Max for modelling tasks related to lighting setup creation.
  5. Familiarity with art analysis for regular improvement.
  6. Photography or cinematography experience is an added advantage.
  7. A background in fine arts is desirable but not required.
