Job Description Summary/Objective:
Buffalo Rock is an award-winning Pepsi and Keurig Dr Pepper bottler founded in Birmingham, AL more than 123 years ago. Buffalo Rock manages the best beverage portfolio in the country, which includes several beloved global and regional brands. The Sanitation Shift Lead plays a crucial role in leading the Sanitation team to maintain the cleanliness, hygiene, and safety standards within the Central Hub Distribution Center.
The Sanitation Shift Lead will be primarily responsible for leading and coordinating the cleaning activities of the Master Cleaning Schedule and ensuring the cleanliness of Vertique System equipment and Central Hub Distribution Center facilities including inside/outside areas in compliance with the regulatory requirements and company standards.
Essential Functions:
- Regular and timely attendance is an essential function of this position.
- Position is required to work all the hours necessary to ensure operations function is fulfilled, including nights, weekends, holidays.
- Lead the sanitation team Employee-Partners.
- Provide guidance, direction, and support in executing the Warehouse Master Cleaning Schedule.
- Assign tasks, set priorities, inspect and monitor performance to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in cleaning operations.
- Train new and current EPs in each position according to the established standard operational procedures (SOPs) and work instructions.
- Ensure that all the team members are up to date with the assigned training program.
- Document all Master Cleaning Schedule activities, upon completing and passing the inspection.
- Enforce the compliance of the cleaning procedures, protocols, GMPs, and housekeeping standards to maintain cleanliness throughout the Central Hub Distribution Center.
- Keep work areas up to housekeeping and GMP standards, including and not limited to palletizers, merge diverters, towers, wrappers, pallet chain, saw lanes, hand stacks and dog houses to ensure minimal disruption of the picking process.
- Verify that all sensors and reflectors are working properly after completion of the cleaning.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures while performing sanitation tasks.
- Identify and mitigate potential safety hazards to prevent accidents or injuries in the workplace.
- Collaborate with other departments, including Vertique operations, Inventory, and maintenance, to coordinate cleaning activities and address cross-functional issues or concerns.
- Communicate effectively with Operations Manager, Maintenance Supervisor and Inventory Supervisor regarding any equipment malfunction or unsafe conditions or any issue that needs to be promptly addressed.
- Prepare and submit reports on daily operations with detailed information about the results and any incidents or issues encountered during the shift.
- Ensure that all products have been removed from areas before using any water hoses to perform cleaning.
- Manage inventory of cleaning chemicals and supplies and ensure adequate stock levels and proper storage.
- Train team members on safe handling and usage of chemicals in accordance with safety protocols and regulatory guidelines.
- Maintain accurate records of cleaning activities, including cleaning schedules, inspection reports, and inventory logs.
- Prepare and submit daily reports to management regarding cleaning performance, compliance, and any notable incidents or issues.
- Must be hands-on with the team completing daily activities including but not limited to sweeping, mopping and scrubbing all assigned areas, cleaning equipment, and components (rollers, mats, belts, platform, pallet stops, apron chains, among others).
- Operate power washer equipment for washing different work areas.
- Perform all duties and actions in a safe manner and continuously monitor areas to ensure that safety procedures are being followed.
- Bale the cardboard and plastic waste from the operational process using compactors.
- Adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOP) and work instructions.
- Make sound decisions and multitask simultaneously without constant supervision.
- Required to follow the Good Manufacturing Program GMPs as listed in Code of Federal Regulations CFR 21 section 110.
- Requires participation in various Food Safety related training that Buffalo Rock utilizes.
- Required to report potential issues related to Food Safety.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Lead assigned hourly warehouse EPs and fulfilled lead responsibilities in accordance with the company's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints, communicating with the Inventory Supervisor accordingly and resolving problems; making recommendations regarding changes in status.
Work Environment:
Working conditions will require both inside warehouse needs and outside. Temperature conditions will vary from extreme heat to extreme cold.

Other Physical Requirements:
All tasks within the warehouse are physically demanding and labor-intensive. Employees within this role are required to:
- Move and stack pallets weighing up to 65 pounds throughout shift.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend down, reach, and climb up and down stairs throughout shift.
- Vision (Near, Distance, Color, Peripheral, Depth). Must be able to distinguish between red, green, and “off” lights.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and warm environment, especially during summer months.
- Sense of Sound - Hearing is required for the total workday.
- Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – high visibility shirt or safety vest, slip resistant shoes, mask, eye protection.
- Position requires physical presence at the Central Hub.
- Ability to bend under machinery and conveyors to clean, sweep, and mop.
Required Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED: Required
- Additional education or training in sanitation, food safety, or related fields: Preferred
- Must have at least one (1) year of previous experience in sanitation, janitorial services, or a similar role within a warehouse or distribution center environment: Required
- At least six (6) months of lead or supervisory experience: Preferred
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability mentor team members, build positive relationships, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and delegate responsibilities.
- Ability to learn how and successfully operate Tenant Scrubber.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to maintain cleanliness standards and documentation accuracy.
