The Role
As Plant Technical Expert (PTE), reporting to the Packaging Reliability & Maintenance Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring the reliable and efficient operation of automated packaging equipment. Working as part of a multi‑skilled team, you will lead on routine maintenance, inspections, fault diagnosis, and repair, while driving continuous improvement in equipment performance and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Actively support the Packaging department, working with Machine Operators and Technical Engineers to deliver departmental KPIs and implement reliability strategies.
- Manage working hours in line with departmental priorities, as agreed with the Reliability Manager.
- Spend the majority of time on the shop floor monitoring equipment, addressing performance issues, and coaching/upskilling Operators.
- Carry out corrective and preventative maintenance activities in line with planned schedules.
- Ensure all work is undertaken in compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Provide expert response to escalated breakdowns and equipment performance issues.
- Support and review standards (SOPs, CILs, SWIs) for Autonomous Teams.
- Contribute to ATO (Autonomous Teams Ownership) implementation, including training and coaching of Operators and Technicians.
- Prepare and update documentation to support training and skill development.
- Collaborate with Reliability Managers, Line Owners, and FLMs to develop SKAP training materials.
- Participate in root cause analysis (RCA), 5Y reviews, and reliability events (PM, CIL, SOP reviews).
- Work with the Maintenance Planner to ensure medium and long‑term plans are in place, including staging of required parts.
- Audit and support 5S activities to maintain high workplace standards.
- Attend external training courses and OEM visits as required.
- Participate in Brewery MCRS meetings and provide flexibility to work shifts when required.
About You
- Qualified Mechanical or Electrical Engineer (HND/HNC or equivalent – essential).
- Advanced technical skills and proven experience in a high‑speed manufacturing or processing environment within a maintenance or technical services function.
- Strong fault‑finding and problem‑solving skills across mechanical, electrical, and automation systems.
- Experience operating at Technical Expert level within a world‑class manufacturing environment, with a track record of delivering process improvements.
- Knowledge of high‑speed packaging equipment and brewing process control systems.
- Awareness of refrigeration, steam systems (including steam traps, heat exchangers, and associated controls), and compressed air plant would be an advantage.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment, prioritising effectively to manage multiple maintenance demands.
