The Role

The Excise Duty Manager is responsible for overseeing the preparation and submission of excise duty returns across Europe, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and internal policies while executed in a timely and accurate manner.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret tax laws, regulations, and rulings that pertain to excise returns
  • Manage the preparation and filing of excise returns across Europe, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements
  • Ensure that all deadlines are met, and penalties are avoided
  • Liaise with external tax authorities, providing them with all necessary documentation and information as required
  • Provide support and guidance to other departments on excise duty matters
  • Develop and maintain internal controls and procedures relating to excise duty, ensuring full compliance with company policy
  • Identify and resolve any discrepancies or issues that arise during the preparation of excise duty returns
  • Prepare reports and analysis for management to support strategic decision‑making
  • Develop and implement excise transformation strategies to optimize the excise function within the organization
  • Analyze excise processes and identify areas for improvement, including automation and streamlining of excise procedures

Who we’re looking for

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in tax, accounting, finance, or related field
  • Professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACCA, CPA, CIMA) is a plus
  • At least 5 years of experience in a similar role, preferably within a multinational environment
  • In-depth knowledge of tax legislation and regulations related to excise duty
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in financial accounting software (e.g., SAP) and Microsoft Office Suite
